Was that an April fool question a day early Jack;-)? I second what Bal wrote. It's springtime get the beasts ready to roar down the strada! All the best, Marc
Bal, Mike, Marc, No April fools question! My wiper arms are silver, but painted, and that seems odd to me. Silver, yes, but either polished or matt, not painted. I have no idea if there were any differences depending on the spot the car takes in the production, but in the early eighties many manufacturers changed to black wiper-arms, hence my question. Bal's car was made right before mine, so that should give the key. Thank you Gentlemen, and Bal, I'm looking forward to what you dind on 433! Best, Jack.
Hi Jack... I see what you are saying.. As you know with Maserati, it all depended on what was in the parts bin that day.. But if the car before yours and after yours are the same wiper-arm color, chances are yours were that color as well.. Perhaps yours were stripped and repainted for a reason.. Mike
Hi Jack, The wiper arms on my car are made of two sections. The lower section is non ferrous (i.e. a magnet won't stick), the upper section is ferrous. Both sections are finished in silver, more matt than satin but that could be due to age. The finish may be an anodised one as i can see scratches (shiny) in the lower section. Sorry I can't get more details but a bit under the weather to get it out of the garage. Hope the pictures help. Easy for me to say, but it's sad that any such fine automobile should be left to sit, just packed into a museum, never to fire its engine in anger and enjoy the open road as intended . what a shame. Lovely, that gold color. - Art
Hi Jack, on my car (AM120US1298) are silver ones as well. Actually I do not know if they are original. Herbert Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Bal, Herbert, Mike, Thank you! I'm going to the garage right now, take them off and strip the paint off of them. Let's see what surprise is hiding there Best, Jack.
Well well well, It appears I sent you gentlemen on a goose-chase! The wiper-arms on #435 are so blemish-free and uniform of surface that they APPEAR painted. The only thing that is actually painted is the plastic clip that holds the blade to the arm, and one has broken. Even the inside of the arms is clean, no corrosion on the springs...the advantage of a dry-country car! Marc, you were right after all assuming it was an April fool's joke, but the joke was on me At least we now know what our wiper-arms look like. Best, Jack.
This beautiful Khamsin (http://www.milesofmystery.nl/wp-content/uploads/sites/5/2016/02/Foto-Auto-1024x575.png) will take part in the Miles of Mystery in Holland in september 2016. Probably #1242 (again!). Equipes 2016 | Miles of Mystery
Oro Kelso is one of the best colours for a Khamsin!! As it is the factory colour of my car and mine is red at the moment I should definitely think about a respray . Do you have more photos of that particular car you could share with us?
Fuel filler neck, and transfer hose to primary tank, any sorce? That close to 90 degree bend is an issue. It must be molded.
AMLC tahnks for posting, glad it will get some use now Herbert, Remember that this, my ex car, has been repainted in a lighter shade last year in Holland, this is NOT oro kelso, I looked at the car at lenght in person at Retromobile. Oro kelso is a darker shade of gold. The gold on the car now is more oro chiaro like that of 004 the prototype. Here for the sake of comparison are two photos I took in June 2004 in the Everglades heading down to Key Largo and then back up t Fort Lauderdale: you see how sunlight affects the shade? Yes I did the bumper and sidelight conversion six months later, at last Best regards, Marc Image Unavailable, Please Login
Dear Marc, ahh, thanks for the correction and sorry for my misinterpretation. Anyway if Oro Kelso or Oro Chiaro both are stunning colours for the Khamsin . best Herbert
Khamsin fuel hose. I tried to order from MIE, was told NLA. This was about 3 years ago. I fabricated my own with brass fittings and marine fuel hose with a tolerance for the gasohol we now use. Got it all installed with some difficulty and then MIE called and said they had gotten a hose! They may still have it. I must wonder if it's been on a shelf somewhere aging for decades and is it tolerant of modern fuels?
Doug, Good point you're making there. The hoses in the engine bay are easy enough to replace, but what with the stuff that connects the filler to the primary and then to the main fuel tank? Best, Jack.
I was putting on euro bumpers at the time so I went ahead and removed a good bit more of the interior to access those fuel tanks. It's not rocket science but it is a bit of PITA. My carpet had been glued in places and it was a challenging to get it loose without pulling any rows. Nicely most of the interior trim is leather clad metal and not brittle from age.Access to lay in the rear lateral hose was also a bit difficult. A one piece flexible hose, as original, would have been nice. The hose I used was pretty thick and not very flexible, and the brass fittings I used for the corner barely fit in, but in the end it worked. If you've ever seen the odd shaped original you can appreciate it's not exactly a piece of cake to replicate and get something in that fits around the various objects and has a different size opening one end to the other. Yea, it was a proud moment------.And no more gas running down my tank and stinking up the car. Or maybe going up in flames.
Sorry for my absence and tardiness in responding.. travelled a bit and I am not sure kids (young) and cars go well from a time sharing perspective. Oh well we all have our balance opportunities.....
I am in the middle of the fuel line (both) replacement now too and also having sourcing problems.., any pictures would certainly be helpful as I am about to do the interior finishings and ext. body so access will be at its best very soon. Richard (in not yet Spring Toronto)
SEAT STRUT STRUT REPLACEMENT or Alternative question My drivers side seat strut no longer holds pressure and I cannot find anyone to rebuild it. Other than spending over $500 us for a one month warranty NOS (New Old Too) Stabilus Bloc-o-lift seat rake strut.... anyone have suggestions on alternative products or solution alternatives that don't permanently modify the original seats? Thank you Richard
Hello Richard... Your seat should be hydraulically activated, correct? You refer to a strut, which I don't think any K seat came with... Show us some pictures... Loved the pictures of the carpeting.. The carpeting could be interesting to find.. Any chance of buying white carpeting with the same loops or pile, and then dying it? I admit with the swirls it would be interesting.. But thought I would throw the thought out there... Mike
