good post! I remain a fan of this car but I don't know where I am comfy buying one.
32,000 miles is high? If I had a new one it would cross 30k in 12 months! But $30k in maintenance and repairs, holy crap.
I have a 2 year old 12C spider with 15K miles, a few minor warranty issues, other than that rock solid. 1st year service = $1,250 2nd year service = $1,750 Best sports car I have owned, by far. AS for holding up, I am sure you can find plenty of Porsche and Ferrari stories of 30K spent, to me the exception and not the norm. MB
Early cars had some issue, but if you actually drove it and had them show up, you'd have had all the issues fixed under warranty. Unless a trans goes bad randomly, you'd be hard pressed to rack up anywhere near $30K in maintenance. I would not buy an early 12C with low mileage without a warranty. Though honestly, I wouldn't buy any low mileage exotic without a warranty. That's why cars come with warranties for the first few years and 50K miles.
I, too, was thinking $30,000 in maintenance for 30,000 miles was astronomical. I think you can drive an IMSA GT car for not much more than that.
If I didn't already have af430 I would buy a Mac.... Plan on buying one soon..which model is the question... They keep introducing new ones...
Holy 6-year-old thread batman! I ended up getting one and am into year 4 of ownership. No one got the name but it is traditional to all the McLarens that came before after the merger of McLaren (M) and Ron Dennis' Project 4 (P4)
I've had my 12C for over three years and have spent about $1500 per service. Car is amazing and runs it's rear end off!
I purchased a lightly used 2012 12C about a year and a half ago, and have put 7,000 miles on it since. I'm very happy with it, there have been no major problems at all. A couple minor issues were attended to under warranty during the annual service. I think it's the best supercar bargain out there!. The combination of performance, technology and rarity are simply unmatchable in anything else for $150k. Two things though: 1) Get a Certified one from a dealer, and for peace of mind purchase an extension of the factory warranty. 2) Upgrade the IRIS 1 Nav/Entertainment unit to IRIS2. IRIS 1 is annoying crap.
One would think. Ryalex and I visited the Dallas dealer and sat in the 570 they had and it was VERY impressive and a heck of a lot easier to get into than the 12C.
570 is significantly lower in power, lacks the active suspension of the 12C and I don't know that it will push the 12C much below the current $140K range. I know I am not motivated to spend $60K to get into a slower car. Now if the 570 gets discounted or depreciates massively, then it can suppress 12C prices. I see the 570 capitalizing on the unobtanium and massive markup of GT3RS, for example.
Yep why put up with porche games when there is something really appealing from Maclaren, and the 570 is really really nice. I don't get this extreme unobtanium thing. Same with the 911R. I get having slightly tight supply, but if ferrari and porche did their jobs properly there would not have been room for Mclaren or Audi. Seems like its not too hard to get a cayman GT4, "just" 15k over MSRP dealer ask. One of the great appeals is over at Mclaren customers are not treated like muppets.
The 570S is a very potent weapon. Yes, it does lack a lot of the special features that make the big brothers more desirable...but still what a machine! We have an MP4-12C that is quite a blast to drive, and the 570S gets the job done just as well. We've done a full exhaust and tune, and it will very effectively push you back in the seat as it eats up the road. The turbos spool very quickly and it's all around a tight, well composed car.
