On the one hand there's evidence of the Lamborghini speeding prior to the accident, and on the other, failiure to yield and not wearing a seatbelt, which in this day and age of incessant chimes and a flashing light on the dash completely baffles me.

Sorting this out is going to be a complete mess.

In PA, failure to yield pretty much always trumps speeding. AS the policeman explained it to me, "You have to leave enough room to make the turn, doesn't matter what speed the approaching car is doing, you can't just turn."

This after my son hit a guy who turned left in front of him at an intersection. The guy complained that my son was speeding. Cop said he didn't care, that it didn't matter.

Can't imagine the rules are much different elsewhere.

It just shows how fast and unexpectedly a life can be snuffed out.

I suspect we all have had something like this upon us that we narrowly avoided. I always try to keep car distances or safety. It seems always someone slips into that spot.

It also seems when you have these cars, and I own a few, someone is always trying to challenge you . Just stupid

My condolences to the families. :(

Looks like the Lamborghini was haulin' ass. Some people often misjudge the speed of cars coming at them. The video shows the lambo going very fast. So ... please don't drive those sorts of speeds in congested urban areas when people ARE likely to pull out onto the road.

But it can happen at lower speeds too.

I once watched someone pull across Geary blvd in SF in a very congested area and cut off a couple on a Harley @ 25 mph which sent them flying in the air. The GF was just fine but the guy flipped in the air and landed directly on his head WO a helmet and was dead instantly. Just horrible. There was nothing the Harley driver could have done.

Might be the other way around this time?

Seems a lot of people learn to cross traffic from deer with similar results. In Texas it is the norm.

Looks like the Altima driver unfortunately didn't look at the Lambo long enough to realize it was approaching so fast. Lesson: don't speed in heavy traffic, especially in a rental car.

That's right. And of course it matters what the speed of the Lambo was. It's obvious from the video he was far exceeding the speed limit. A typical driver sees a vehicle as being far enough away (if it were going the speed limit) and turns left. Of course it would be to the turning drivers advantage to judge the speed/distance combination.

There was a fatal here this weekend; a car turned left in front of an oncoming motorcycle. The cycle rider died. There was no ticket issued to the car driver as the motorcyclist was way over the speed limit.
