Anyone have a source for TR hood struts. Shamiles old post on the TR cross thread says Napa has them as a Balkamp part no BK819-5573. Discontinued. Tired of using a yard stick.

4 years ago I put Strong Arm Lift Support F4025 struts (on AdvancedAutoParts's web site), they've been flawless.

Whichever you put in, be very careful with the pins securing the struts, they are very (very very!) close the headlight housing and if you're not careful you could scratch them badly!

For what it's worth, I haven't had any problems with the Stabilus components, and I've had the front bonnet open a lot in the past 2 years.

In a side note, what are the suggestions for the rear bonnet? My rear bonnet doesnt stay up when cold now.

Not yet. Just able to get the thing out of the gar this week. Hell of a winter. Has been sitting for 5 months. Have a leaky axle seal. Ben Salerno in Sac will fix that. Brian Moore Resto in Sac to spruce up body. My son wants to haul it down to Carmel in August. Lots of hard work if you ask me. I like it just fine buzzing around Klam Falls. Feel much safer now that BC did Newmans carrier fix.

Concur with Stabilus SG402012--I replaced my struts with these 5 years ago and no signs of getting weak (and I have the hood open frequently). This will last and do a great job.

Mondial trunk struts work well and last a very long time. Mine are 6 or so years old and work like the day I installed them. Unlike the aftermarket struts they fit properly too.

I replaced mine with new Stabilus and hardly any better than the ones I removed that were fitted from new. Not happy :(

Phil, I'd be very surprised if they were this P/N: SG402012. Can you confirm what you installed?

I had mine regassed, they worked for about six months, then they started getting stuck, squeaking, was too difficult to lift the bonnet , so I replaced them with original ones.

I'll make a note next time I am in the garage. They should be correct as they came from Maranello :(

If you are going that route, piece of fuel line of the correct size, split along one side, works fine and will not damage the smooth part of the strut like the screw down portion of that clamp will. Some folks use a piece of PVC, sliced and cut to the proper length too, but that might scratch the paint.

I picked up set of Strong Arms recently at a local auto parts store but I found the cartridge was a bit too thick to allow a proper mount on the upper pivot point next to the headlight. The only way to have installed these is upside down which shortens the life expectancy.

I went with another pair of Stabilus from liftsupportdepot.com which offers a lifetime warranty. Can't beat that.

Or you can put in a pair of 60563300 and not have to have them recharged every few years. I have been installing these a long time and have yet to replace a single one. I have had a set in our TR for years.
