How many years have you watched Johnny Herbert?

Anybody who has followed Herbert's career knows that throughout his entire career he's had a "cheeky chappie" happy go lucky nature about him, and has always poked fun at other drivers. (When Louise Goodman used to do the driver interviews for ITV in the UK, she used to have trouble keeping a straight face whilst interviewing Herbert because just off camera, he'd be fondling her breast! - And before we have a load of outraged and disgusted posts about sexual assault, Louise and Johnny were good friends and she had no issues about it).

Had it been Jenson Button in Alonso's position then Herbert would have made the exact same comment to him - And Button would have more than likely just had a laugh with him about it rather than making a spiteful and nasty remark.

Perhaps SKY TV could show Alonso Johnny Herbert's F3000 accident and let him know the injuries that Herbert carried throughout his racing career, to give Alonso a better understanding of why Herbert was only a "mediocre" driver and not a World Champion, especially considering that Herbert raced in an era without power steering, with three pedals and a manual gearbox to deal with.

Yes, ideally Herbert will have a chat with Alonso and explain that he was only joking and didn't really mean anything by his comments, and hopefully Alonso will explain that he was not in the best of moods at the time and may have over reacted and they'll both clear the air.

There again, if Alonso wants to make this whole thing into some sort of feud, I seriously doubt Herbert will give a rats rectum and will just take the p:censored:ss out of Alonso's lack of a sense of humour!

    He's a rat.
This injury will take the remaining wind out of his sails.
I wish him a speedy recovery and a pleasant retirement.

I wonder if he will be cleared for China because I have heard that broke/fractured ribs are quite painful and take some time to heal properly.

I have always liked Johnny and yes Alonso is a rat.

Johnny also forecasted in 2011 that Schumi would soon retire, and said he was not as good as the new younger drivers coming through etc, which also probably didn't go down too well at the time..

I watched Johnny win the FF festival... was also there when he had that horrific accident at Brands Hatch ..and numerous other races in his career.

To me he was a very gutsy driver, who would have made it to the very top given different circumstances, also a 'top bloke'.

Alonso? Still a great driver of course but just a bit too hmmmm moody.

Maybe time to move over and let the new playstation brigade have a go?

By your account, only someone who has matched Alonso's records can criticise him.

    That eliminates most F1 commentators!!

You don't need to even have participated in F1 to give an opinion about it. And the same for politics, showbusiness, arts, etc...

I was just wondering if it had been James Hunt making Herbert's comments...because he probably would!...and then Fernando telling him, you're not a champion, that's why you ended up comenting races!!! Or i can remenber other guys who did it, like Sheckter, Stewart....Of course it would have been fun to watch James reaction to fernando, lolol,

All Alonso needed was an excuse to retire. Now he has it, finally !

    Ouch!.... ;)

Gotta disagree there too; A busted rib is no fun. That it also injured (punctured?) a lung means he can't be belted in. Nevertheless, seems he wanted to go. Uncle Ron asked Charlie apparently.

As for the car, I think he's 'towed the company line' pretty well..... Sure, everyone knows the PU's a POS, but he's saying the right things IMO.

    No whining..... ;)

    Cheers,
    Ian

I agree. People may not like him, but he's a racer and he's earned the right to speak his mind.

I don't mind any of them speaking their minds TBH. Better than the PR 'drones' we're generally subjected to.
