So actual prices are half the list price. A road registered car a premium on top of that.

They never were road legal and I think if its legal in one country it means nothing in the other country

Very interesting thread, obviously values are on the up.

I have a 348 Challenge race car from 1993 and I'll need to renew the insurance soon.

What's the thinking on values for insurance purposes?

    Many thanks.

Just renewed my coverage at an agreed value of $US125,000 following brief correspondence with the underwriter (and supplying some fresh photos and info on race history). Condition and originality (both very strong in this case) played a significant part in the valuation.

I think you are bang on with your valuation. Once my car which is getting a light restoration and engine service it will be valued at the same based on race history, condition and originality.

    Thanks guys.

Do you think there'd be much variation between countries or would the insurance value be viewed on a global basis?

I'm honestly not sure. Here in the US there seems to be a major price spike on allegedly "street legal" Challenge cars (348s and early 355s)- although whether any of them are actually legal depends on which State you're in (the laws differ) and how closely the car in question hews to its original, race-ready specification. Even if you get the car titled, most states forbid things like 5-6 point harnesses. roll cages, open exhaust, etc. on street-driven cars, and there are also federal laws that impact on road legality, so a car can be properly titled but not legally drivable on public roads.
Nevertheless, the desire to obtain a license tag ("number plate", to you Brits) and drive to/from the race track for track days is driving prices up. Not sure how well this translates to the situation abroad . . .

In Canada we price our cars according to the US dollar. The Canadian laws regarding roll cages, 6 point harness are similar to US laws

Agreed. Mine was legal to drive in France but not here. Even if your Challenge is "street legal", and you are involved in an accident, the police may not give a crap especially if some was injured or killed.

    My definition is~
If it was intended from production and sold as new with title and plates to drive on the street in it's country of origin.
    Period...

Yes I have jumped through hoops to put some monsters on the street with questionable circumstances. No way I would consider this a road legal car just because I did it. Anything can be done if one truly wants to do it.

to get some more clarity on this topic, we are collecting a list of all "registered" 360CH (360CH cars with officially registered number plates that are being driven on the road):
    http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/challenge-gt-cars/517386-road-legal-360-challenge.html
so far we have become aware of 6 registered 360CH cars, 5 in Europe, 1 in Australia.
they seem to be pretty rare beasts on the roads....

I believe he is referring to the update kit Ferrari released in 1998 for earlier Challenge cars, the most visible component was the rear wing but there where many other detail improvements. You could order a kit to update your earlier car, or if you ordered a new F355 Challenge in late 98 onwards you received all the latest bits.

To see the differences you need to compare the '96 and '99 F355 Challenge parts books diagrams, you can also see the parts listings on the Eurospares or Ricambi website.
I've attached the page from the '99 book that shows the part numbers for the various kits.

Thanks! Ok, doesn't seem to be anything to special (aside from the rear wing) from the run of the group F355's from 1995. I have the Challenge 1999 Parts book and see all the different items when compared to 1995.

    ciao,

    SRR

Hammer 160.000,-- Eur plus 15% plus tax = 188.560,-- Euro

Correct me when I'm wrong, this must be a world record for a Ferrari 355 Challenge at an Auction
