Gentlemen, I was messing around with the passenger switch for the window so I was leaning over, my head popped the mirror out of the windshield socket, which went crashing down on the center console. I broke the glass in the mirror, the rest of it is fine and it popped right back into place. How do I fix the glass? Does the mirror come apart? Should I replace the entire unit? Dinoparts has one but I'm afraid it won't fit. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Don't panic. A new mirror glass can be cut and replaced. There are threads here describing just this thing. Try searching....

IIRC, the rear view mirror, at least on later models, is in 2 parts. There is a clear glass that covers the mirror glass. It can be taken apart so you could basically replace the glass.

Correct. There's basically a front half of the mirror (the "frame", if you will) and the back half - the housing along with the part that mounts to the windshield. Therein is the actual mirror and a piece of clear glass that covers it, as in a picture frame. Either should be able to be replaced.

Another option is to use optical polymer sheet. Easy to cut to shape. Same stuff they make glasses lens with. Will never break.

Great idea but like plastic clock crystal may not last through many cleaning cycles without frosting up. Optical stuff is polycarbonate and will scratch up.

Yes, I would go with the mirror only as to the glass cover makes for an air gap that over a short period of time allows for clouding which means take apart and clean.

Be very careful with pressure on that mount to the glass. It can easily crack the windshield. Seen it before.
