My calculations for actual ownership cost of a $130k F430

    Mike , This is a great post. Have you thought about diminished resale value of the car in case of an accident? Most insurance companies will not entertain diminished value claims.

    This is one major consideration when you buy a used car with no warranty and meet with an accident. The car will be fixed by the insurance company but what if there are issues that crop up due to the repairs etc and it becomes a problem child?

    If the accident causes frame damage , i would think you will see a huge drop in value when reported on carfax.

    This is one of the reasons why I purchased a brand new 2011 GT3 when I wanted to buy a 2006 F430. If something happens to the new car , at least i have the warranty for 4 years and can drive the car with peace of mind for 4 years.

    Btw...I Had a 700 hp 996tt EPL tuned , great car. Enjoy your tt.

    I have to disagree with you on one point. I have owned several Ferraris and daily driven those just like any other car and I can tell you that they were very reliable and in many cases better at that than some Porsches I have owned.

    Now to the general chatroom; drive a Ferrari 10k miles a year and you can say that you own the Ferrari, but drive it a 1k miles per year and the car is the one owning you!!!

    Two of my neighbors have one of them thar 911's, and a guy at work had one. They look really nice.. oh wait, sorry.. got that confused with the regular S and Non-S variety. ;-) hehehe

    Love my porsches as DD, but just too many people have them to be "special" and they all look too much alike IMHO. My 360 has been *knock knock* reliable as any porsche I've owned. I'd take the 430. It's in a different league. :)

    I agree the F430 is more special than any Porsche.. But the GT3 has very good sound and good looks and can be stealth if you don't want to draw too much attention (the big wing doesn't help!). Plus its far more durable for track use. Objectively the 2011 GT3 is a better car than the F430 in most ways ...but there is something about the F430 that i like. That's the reason i still hang out here...really hope to get one soon.

    Nice!! Although some folks have so many cars that it's hard to put that many miles on any one car.

    Yes, this is a major consideration, and I think I mentioned it earlier somewhere in this thread. However, it's like major repairs in that you can't really budget for it. I said keep $10k-$15k fund for repairs, and the same could be considered for diminished value if you get in an accident, but x2 or x3. 5 years is a long time to me, and I could change my mind, but I wouldn't ever plan to sell my F430 when I buy one. I plan never to sell my 996tt either, so this concern is a bit less relevant assuming you have insurance.

    I'm hoping to get the tt out on the track for the first time at MidOhio May 6-8. Should be fantastic.

    With the current market on a early 05/06 f430 would you really lose much if held for the next few years? Seems like they are near bottom of depreciation. Also they seem to be fairly reliable. I am thinking of getting one for this reason - that I dont expect to lose much on it for a few yrs of ownership.

    I've factored in the CPO extended factory warranty which costs ~$5,000 annually for piece of mind. Assuming you buy from a Ferrari dealer and the car is CPO and eligible for the warranty. Mine did.

    Reality is the Ferrari in this example has only depreciated about $3,000 per year. Most of the other costs would be the same for any high end sports car. So for all the people that were frightened away from getting driving and enjoying their dream car....what a shame. I pity the fool that bought a Vette instead and most likely cost them more than the Ferrari.
    Life is short, get the Ferrari it's well worth the cost!

    I recently purchased a 2008 430 spider and I was initially concerned about future depreciation but after spending some time with the car I realize why the value has stayed so strong on these cars. It is an amazing car with all the performance and excitement I could ever want and it makes a great companion to my 550.

    These are very informative posts. HOWEVER, a 430 is a Toy!! No one needs one, we buy them for FUN! I have been blessed to enjoy many toys over the years, many nice cars, two boats, a twin engine Piper Seneca airplane, beautiful homes, a beach front condo in St. Pete, etc. I've spent a fortune on toys and don't regret a dime, because the memories of the past, along with the fun I'm having now with my 2007 F430 is priceless. If you dwell on ownership costs, you soon loose track of the reason you bought the toy in the first place! Have Fun Guys! Life goes by too fast, I can't believe I'm 72, but age sneaks up on us! Drive and enjoy your 430s.

    Exotics are about the passion. The visceral joy you experience as you watch the tach climb and hear the roar behind your head. And possibly about the whimper from your wife as you take a corner. ;-)

    I love the fact that you're 72 and still enjoying these cars. :)

    I bought my F430 F1 two years ago, I think my car depreciation is about $3-5K/year max.

    I love resurrected threads....

    The lower end of 430 prices still have not changed appreciably since 2009. 100-110 is still the bottom unless very high mileage or other issues.

    I still have my 2005. Haven't driven much since 2011 and it now has 26K on it. Still has the original clutch. I had the major (10 year) service done last year which was approximately 2200. Routine maintenance and repairs for the 1st 10 years totaled less than 10K.

    Good news on tires. Michelin super sports are stickier, last longer and cost less than the pilots they replaced.

    Prices for 3 pedal cars soared last year and I could now sell my car for about the original msrp. Life is good. Paddle cars seem like a smokin' deal if that's your thing.

    Driving happily in my 11th year with the 430.

    Funny to read all this. I am thinking of Selling my minty 1977 308 GT4, one of only 320 made that year, and less than 70 were sent to the US. Of course the color is red. But.... anyway, I have been thinking about a 430 the past few weeks. not really sure why. Maybe just a bit *newer* than the 1977. But I would miss the GT4, love that mid engine V8 and the gears. I still have my 550 V12, but it does not really like the tight curves on the Tail of the Dragon. I need a smaller wheelbase. I have never bought a car for an investment, I drive them all...... but I do wonder if the 430 has another $15,000 plus drop.

    Just thinking....... 320 GT 4's made world wide in one year. and I guess about 3,000 worldwide in the 430's. Talk about apple and oranges, these cars are no even on the same planet. Low build Vs. crazy technology .....

    I cant see good examples of f430s dropping below 100-110 int eh next yr or two.

    That is a lot of car for the money. but the 599 at $160,000 is tempting, and a 458 at $189,000. so if you spend only $50,000 than F430 money you are into 458 territory. And, it goes on up from there.

    Late model, low mileage good examples will still be 130 to 140k range. There will be deals on earlier cars with higher mileage, the market wont change too much?

    The cheapest I seen (F430) was for a 2005, 45k miles for $85K, the next one a 2007, 22K miles for $110K and up from there. I'm just talking about coupes. Would it depreciate some more? I think so but probably a couple of thousands dollars per year. They won't look much different when a year later from lets say $129K to $127K

    Same here. Just picked up a 430 Spider from the dealer, 10k miles, full factory warranty. Absolutely no regrets!
