Hello Dyke. Do you know what the rationale was for blocking the accelerators? Thanks.

John: I do not. Peter Sachs, who owns one of the Solex equipped cars has stated that the lack of accelerator pumps does make the engine very smooth when driving (?), but it is very hard to start when cold. I am not personally familiar with this model Solex, so I do not know if the pump circuit is adjustable. Possibly, there was no easy way to reduce the volume of fuel delivered by the pump circuit, so they just bypassed it. These same carbs were used on the Lancia D50 Grand Prix cars, and they are part of that Vittorio Jano design that carried over into these Bellantani engines. These engines have "Jano" valve gear, just like an Alfa 8C from the 1920s. I am lucky enough to have a lot of miles behind the wheel of one of these engines, and I agree with Phil Hill in that they are the most impressive engines ever built by Ferrari.

E D Martin left me his entire collection of racing memorabilia which includes articles and photos regarding 0656.
I'd be happy to help fill in any blanks regarding this car.
