    LOL
I have to come to the 355 forum to get a solution to lifters in a 360.

I'll try the heat/cool idea to see if i can get the little basxxxds to come apart.

I was also wondering about using compressed air to help pop them - possible yes ?

I doubt compressed air will do it. I just took 40 of them apart and some of them can be tough. Im trying and im close to finding a replacement. Im not sure if anyone has ever bought the VW lifter that's been mentioned here. Our lifters ( at least for 355) measure out at 28.35mm x 26.25. I may have found lifters that match this size but I have to measure out internals. If anyone here has bought that VW lifter can you please report. If im successful ill report back...........To Flyinghiggs, can you measure the 360 lifter and let us know. Maybe post pics up like I have shown,,Thanks

Larry, the OD should be measured with micrometers. That is a precision fit in the head so it is a critical dimension. As you also noted, the internals need to be the same also.

I plan to make a tool to take these apart which won't damage any of the parts.

Cant reiterate that enough, quality micrometer for this measurement. Measure lifter bore also.

    I have an update....

He still offers the service, and improves them in the process.

    2. Getting them apart.
I found the surface you used to hit them against makes all the difference.
The wooden pallet outside my unit was ace - 3 hits and out they came.
I tried a few other surfaces and non of them worked as well as the pallet wood did.

So if they are being difficult perhaps try a different surface to hit them against.

I had one that was particularly stubborn, I honestly thought that I was going to damage my hand rather than the lifter. It was that stubborn, just kept working at it, it eventually popped. Compressed air won't help really, you simply won't get the pressure high enough to dislodge them.

One person asked about using pliers to wiggle it free, which you can try if you want to get really frustrated, but the surface is not conducive to using a plier to grasp. The lifters do have a relatively hard surface which is hard to damage even with pliers (but I suspect can be damaged with enough effort).
