That was amazing to watch. Not my Mike Tyson, but all of those guys. There's no comparison between the fights in that video and the recent Fury match.
Ha! He wouldn't have the mental game for it, for sure. But he had some of the fastest hands and feet in the world. He could have cut-down to under 200lbs also with proper training ; )
When I said naive, I meant back in the day when don King was calling his shots, Mike seems like he got dragged along and put into situations rather than being totally responsible himself. In the recent interview, I think he came across as a thoroughly nice chap outside the ring, and I remember he was devastating within it. He is definitely cleverer than given credit for, his recent film cameos show he is still pretty wily.
In a similar manner to Lewis Hamilton, the whole fame, celebrity and money thing started to become more important to Mike Tyson, distracting him from his original goal in life (encouraged no end by Don King! - The worst person Tyson could have ever have fallen in with!), and in the end it got the better of him (his autobiography is a real eye opener!) If only Cus D'Amato had been younger when he discovered Tyson and had been with him throughout his career then there wouldn't have been any of the controversies and Tyson would have challenged both Marciano and Ali as being the greatest ever! (He's the only fighter I have ever seen who won a fight by KO from a single body punch! ). I'm glad to see that Mike Tyson's life didn't completely self destruct (especially after the tragic death of his daughter!), and that he survived the evil clutches of Don King! He's made some seriously bad decisions and choices in life, both inside the ring and outside it, but he's come through it all and survived, and I for one will be a Mike Tyson fan for life! Lewis Hamilton would do well to read up on the rise and fall of Mike Tyson and learn some lesson's from it!
Oh I didn't take offense or feel the need to defend him as a fan...was just adding more info which I find interesting. You are absolutely correct. Yes, he has been throughly taken advantage of...by Don King, by Robin Givens, by the Nation of Islam, and by many other people too. Seems he is finally in a decent place, but he has been clear that he struggles with addiction and other issues regularly. ...and on another note, I think Mike has throughly KOed Fury and Hamilton in this thread : )
+ 1 It's the same across all areas of sport and entertainment. We are given mere pastiches today. Authentic, larger than life geniuses have been replaced by bland plebs trying to emulate the true greats. Instead of Mike Tyson, we now have Tyson Fury Instead of James Brown, we know have Justin Bieber Instead of James Hunt, we now have Lewis Hamilton
-The dark cloud.- -The journey.- So sage and so young. Enough of Hollywood, Dianetics, new age talk. Ridiculous. You are a racing driver..........man up and talk like a human being. Save the drama for your inner circle. Its just racing.
Oh man!..... Hadn't visited Sniff in a while..... Another time sink! This popped up, had to share; Cheers, Ian Image Unavailable, Please Login
Big fan of the Lewis of Arabia. I mean honestly, it is George C. with Patton's togs. A giant leap forward for F1..
