It's interesting to watch the new fly by wire aircraft like the C-17 go through their routine..... Not sure if the pilots actually do anything of if its all a computer thing.
I apologize. I got things a bit backwards. Thumb up and the stick left, the left aileron should be up. Thumb down and the stick forward, the elevator should be down. Too many scotches maybe. At any rate, we made sure that all controls were free and operative. Another thing that I recall. Don't let anyone out of the airplane with the engine running. Never pull the stick back when you are taxiing downwind...especially in a high wind.. I know, old saw stuff.
Sad deal!!! A Canadian defense contractor has a few facilities at the Abbotsford Airport. They are an authorized Lockheed C130 service center. I see the flying overhead all the time.
Glad you figured it out...left me scratching my head. When I was 15, my IP told me on my first flight that the stick or rudder always points at the "spoiled wing". Was easy for me to remember because I never had to think about it.
