    I have used slip joints on aircraft exhausts which are NA applications, and in the tuned pipe section of 2 stroke engines. I have used them on a few automotive applications but never pre-turbo. Now I have a header that has slip joints on a turbo charged engine running 19PSI boost and there are two slip joints and they are leaking like crazy. Exhaust is blowing by and it is audible, I thought about using the tig to tack them then pull them off and weld them up but it could then expose the system to cracking. Anyone got any proven solution to sealing up a slip joint?

    Make it a double slip. I prefer to not use them at all however.

    I good weld should be fine. I don't see a reason cracking would increase and you could stress relieve it too.

    Is it possible to replace that section with a bellow instead?

    As found on many street applications.

    We always weld headers up to the turbo flange attachment, any leakage can quickly become a flame thrower apart from performance loss.

    Aluminum block + heads boxer engine and header is SS, think a bellow would be good for this application, I could splice one on each crossover in place of the slip and it would be very little trouble to do so. Sounds like a better option than welding up the slip joints.
