To the main instrument cluster, due to manual conversion as evidenced by the shift knob in the photo. Would it not have been possible to keep the gear indicator or is that a casualty of the conversion?
That's right. I forgot he converted it to a 6 speed. Hey. According to Hagerty, he just added $30,000 of value to his car! Nice work. Carry on
Do you mind starting another thread, or have a link to a thread, describing that F1 to manual stick conversion you performed on your car? If you could mention the parts required, amount of labor involved, and overall cost, that would be great. I probably won't do it myself, but it is good to know that it is possible. TIA. I will have to redo the wiring of my gauge install, now that we found the correct wire to the gauge! It will be more "Factory correct!" Cheers
I have not done the conversion, just noticed the shift knob in kenneyd's photo. Hope he will respond.
The gear indicator always showed "-" so it didnt follow the manual shifting (I do have my F! TCU unplugged however). I wanted my car to match a factory gated car in every way so i swapped the F1 part of the cluster for the water/oil pressure gauge. Sweet! Hagerty is comical I've debated this, but internet scrutiny from elitist is not worth my time. I will say its actually very simply and i could reverse it in a few hours. Im happy to help anyone looking to do this.
That is real pioneering work, just as Alex did with the oil temp gauge. If this thread is any indication, a lot of people would really appreciate it.
I have some advice for you; Don't be discouraged by the internet elitists, but rather be encouraged by the genuinely inquiring minds
One more thing to add. Maybe I am lazy or impatient lol... but I'd hope my efforts are more of a "keep-it-simple-stupid" I experimented with the temperature sensor gasket. Yes the factory plug is flat with a copper crush gasket and the oil temp is tapered and does not have a gasket of any kind according to the parts diagram. Most of my other cars have had a simple o-ring type washer and so i went to autozone and picked up a M14 653336 oil drain plug gaskets and used the rubber one and installed it. (it is a sung fit so i had to spin the washer onto the plug.) I installed it snug, but not tight, drove it until the oil was hot and checked. No seepage what-so-ever. Please, If anyone has concerns over this please tell me why? otherwise, i think this is an simple way to do this swap that mimics other manufactures OEM drain plugs. P.S. I also did this with a full oil tank since i recently had and oil change and did not want to wait. It wasn't bad if you're quick. Just an arm bath and a few paper towels for the floor. I didnt even notice any change in the oil level. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Guys my temperature is not working cold and hot cant explain. Parts is not available could some one help me out thanks every one cheer love the 355 amzing also have 430 but 355 is the best car ever Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Sent from my SM-N950F using Tapatalk
Which parts? Gauge? Transmitter? Which version of the 355 do you have? 2.7? 5.2? Have you checked the connector on the transmitter? It's in the engine "V" and not so easy to get to. You may be able to feel for the plug (if you can't see it) Item 39, not 40 https://www.ricambiamerica.com/car-diagrams/ferrari/v6-v8/355-group/f355-m2-7-1995/water-pump-and-oil-water-heat-exchanger.html
Your oil pressure is working, so it's unlikely it's a power issue or instrument plug/connector issue. Does the instrument background lighting work?
@shlokserai I would start as the basics. -Check that the sensor is even plugged in -check the continuity of the wire from sensor to gauge. -Test the resistance of the sensor -test the gauge by installing a resistor I suspect just a lose connection or bad sensor.
I just checked the sensor on my car and it's visible, but I couldn't get my hands anywhere near it. You would have to remove the coverplate in the engine "V" and lift up the coolant tank. Because the sensor (switch/transmitter) connector is hard to get to, you could check the resistance of the sensor by accessing the large rectangular connector behind the rear left hand suspension strut. If you tell me which car you have, I can post a wiring diagram and tell you which pins/sockets to check. I assume you have a digital multimeter and some basic tools, although you'll need a 3.5mm Allen wrench to take off the engine bay side cover plate. Hopefully this will not be your one and only message post on FChat.
I haven't been able to find a non-Ferrari subsitute for the water temperature sender, so you'll probably have to pay Ferrari prices. I've read that it's a Jaeger sensor with a red band on it, not a Bosch sender. If this is a genuine sale, this looks like the Veglia instruments you are looking for, but I doubt you'll need them. https://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/camberwell/other-parts-accessories/combined-instrument-oil-pressure-water-temp-ferrari-355/1201802969
Ha ha ha I remember that as I was going to install one using your method but we squashed it. I agree on the old thing
