The new car hasn't been named yet,but is likely to carry a new number related to the engine size.A 430 modena name is likely, for the new model will have a Maserati Coupe -derived V8 engine of around 4.3 ltrs.
Ferrari engine development boss said " the V8 can stretch to almost 5.0 ltrs, but 4.3 to 4.5 is better in a new Ferrari application. We can achieve easily the same specific output as in the current 360."
That points to a power output nearer 470 BHP, comfortably up on today's 400BHP Modena.
In the new Ferrari ,the V8 will use a flat crank, allowing the engine to rev around 9,000 rpm.Insiders talk of greater top-end power at the expense of low-down refinement.

Ironically the present Maserati 4200 engine was designed by the Ferrari boys. Even then there was talk that the same engine will be used to replace the current 360 engine that has reched the limits of it's development.

What was planned before was to use the same engine block but different head and crank. And diffent stage of tune. So there no suprise there.

But I had hoped that Ferrari would go for a V10. I've driven the Gallardo and the engine is lovely. Lots of torque and the V10 sound is just beautiful. Ahhhhhh one can only wish.

Take a look at the dyno of the Maserati 4200 - there's zero effort required to achieve 400BHP. Taking that engine and clearing headroom to 9,000 could make for a fantastic motor!

Tony, Im fairly sure the pictured car is a 360CS, not the 428 Monza (as I hope it will be named). If anything, that car is a 360CS with the 428 Engine and a 7sp gearbox, being run around maranello to test reliability. Wasnt Ferrari thinking about making a 7spd sequential F1 box for its next 8cyl car?

    Tony,

Would you please take a good scan of the article. In which number was it. In this week or in last week (22/02/2004).

    Many thanks

The rear of that car is different from any other 360 I've seen.

Hmm now that I see it it does look kinda different, and the front seems more pointed and the side scoop is farther back and larger, it almost looks like an F-40 scoop. Maybe that is the real deal....I hope no though. Its not ugly, but from what I see here it cant hold a candle to the Gallardo, styling-wise...
