Any updates to this thread? The suspense is killing me.
You should try these guys and see what they can do for you as they maybe able to repair you ECU. ECU DME Testing Service for BMW Porsche Volvo Jaguar Ferrari Free Shipping | eBay
I had an immobilizer box go bad on me in 550 while it was in for service. Car ran beautifully after the service, parked it outside. Went to bring it in that evening before close..no start. Putted around with it for almost a full week until I pulled an immobilizer from a 355 and pulged it in. Car fired right up.
Perhaps you should carefully check all solders of the ECU's male pins to the motherbard. It is possible that one of them is bad and unplugging and plugging the connector moved it a bit establishing temporary contact.
We all agree on the alarm battery being the issue with the red light on the dash. I feel for you if you still are unable to drive your pride and joy. Please tell us its all fixed?? If not, one part often overlooked is the ignition switch. I have a fully equipped shop and i have seen the issues a failing ignition switch can cause. Saabs Trionic system plays funny games when the switch fails. I sure hope this helps you. Cheers Andy.
Interesting. I always thought the swapping of those alarm control boxes was more complicated than that. Just a simple swap?
It is that easy in a 355 and I guess the 550. Just plug in the different immobilizer and you are good to go. The later ones in the 360 paired with the drivers side computer so if you put in a different one you have to swap the ECUs from side to side so the immobilizer has a fresh ECU to pair with. Both are easy replacements if you have a good imobilizer with fobs. The whole complication is in the PIN and trying to program fobs... doesn't seems to work as advertised.
Maybe its just me. Whats strange was the cel there one minute and not there the next... No fuel pump, and other strange happenings. Again, a failing ignition switch on a car nearing 20 years old.... I know what id be checking next...
It was a bad ECU. I installed a known working used ECU and the car now runs again. 2 years and 3 months later..............
Had mine tested and cleaned/repaired at a local avionics shop for $150 CDN...this stuff is ancient technology to them....they literally smelled the bad circuit board before testing it. It was the fuse block in the passenger side footwell. Yeah....not the CDI but just send it (whatever electronic stuff you suspect is defective) to a specialist....they love mocking Italian "exotic" electronics
I understand my question was fir Rob from Canada I probably should buy a used F1 ecu but I thought usually they are pretty good. Especially in my 99 since it is inside.
