Ok so have gotten to bare metal on 22641 a 77 GTB that was Big Tex old car. Found out the original color is Azzurro Dino 20-A-349

I took this to the local automotive paint shop and they couldn't get it to cross to a correct color. They are a PPG store and I gave them the Salchi Glidden name but they have had no success.

I just need the modern paint reference code so I can paint the car back to it's original color, and knowing a bunch of us are restoring the 308's maybe someone has this code already crossed to a new paint product.

Any help is appreciated. Going to epoxy prime next week so getting closer to having this car back to color.

Thank you for any help, feel free to call text or e mail. Don't want to have to load the car and take to the shop to get this figured out, as I didn't need to sand the jams the original color is there.

    Thank you much Sean

Didn't even know this existed. Will drop by the store and see what we come up with.

Thanks, I am also desperate for the today formula of Azzurro Metallic 106 A 32 which is a Glasurit code for my 79 GTB, but this website doesn't recognise the code or paint name. Strange? At the moment my paint shop is just trying different samples, but I'd love to get the magic formula.

Sorry I was talking gibberish, it's a Salchi code! Please ignore me.

I am no expert, so take with a few grains of salt, but 77 GTBs only had Salchi paint and trying to match them with Glasurit paint may be pointless.

You may be better off finding someone who has done all of the research for a restoration repaint in that color, or who may have a nearly perfect original paint car in that color.

There are threads here about people repainting based on another line of paint "matched" by a code and having results not even close to what they intended.

I would not paint my GTB without a spray card that matches exactly what the original was. It took me a while to find one for Blue Dino Metallizzato.

Enjoy the search and best of luck!

You can use the Glasurit color page to just search Ferrari under manufacturer and then year and it will list the colors from that year. But not all of them come back with a formula.

But definitely get a color sample painted prior to shooting the car to make sure it's what you want.

It's Glidden Salchi, per the code sticker.
    For the years in question...

Call Ron Tonkin, were it me I would have them "batch the paint" for you.

Ferrari of Houston can do it too.

I normally let the painter "spray what brand he likes" as the materials.
Still, once the code is in hand, he has something to work to.

Sorry I have been out of touch....crazy busy with some personal family issues.

Agree on your posts, as well as doing a few spray outs, but there was none of this paint showing, it had been color changed before I owned it.

That's what was on it as I owned it.

The Dino Blue from the code, is not metallic.
More of a 'Smurf Blue' single stage laquer originally.....

There are a few chips in mine where I can see the original color underneath. And it's a match from a direct angle, but the modern base/clear has so much more depth to it that it doesn't match all the time.

Someday I will take a headlight door into my auto local body supply shop (English Color) and get them to put it in their scanner and see if they can match what I currently have.

Paint scratch.com has many colors but maybe not for your year. I found their 1981 color is a very good match for my 1978. They will mix any amount it ready to paint. I was surprised how accurate the color was. You can buy a touch up bottle for cheap and test the color that way.
