looked a little like the magnas i had on my e38. I am not a big big exhaust fan anymore. I don't like getting a cops attention before i deserve it.
No, he just did the trans.. as the 4.0 V8 is quite a torque monster with a few tweaks. As far as the M5 engine swaps go, he also has a 73 CS w/an S38 M5 driveline that he absolutely loves. I too was taken with the Imola.. and I typically don't do read.. however, I liked it so much I painted an Alva GTV I had in that color.
After swearing off BMW for well over a decade and conveying my disdain to anyone who would listen, in the last four months I have gotten not one, but two new BMW's. I got the wife a new X3 in February and I just picked up an i8 yesterday! Though I still think their best years may be behind them when it comes to building pure drivers cars, a test drive in a friends i3 turned me on to the brand once again. A great salesman and a car junkie "BMW genius" who could answer my most esoteric questions helped me get over any lingering concerns I had about the marque.
So the 911 is gone? The car that didn't have all the technical geegaws (like newer cars) that you were so enamoured with? What am I going to do with you?
My first car was a 1988 325i E30. Girlfriend drives an 325i E30 convertible now, I daily a 2002 540i E39 which I converted to 6spd and a few other goodies. Definitely solid cars.
I can give you all sorts of rational explanations, but in the end, I just really liked the i8, liked what it stood for, and really enjoyed the extended test drive they gave me. Also, with two Lancias and the mgb I have enough vintage stuff to keep me busy for awhile! It's a nice change up!
I've had two, a '97 540 for seven years, and my current '07 335i for 7.5 years. Between the two I have logged 170k miles, which is more than any other brand I've had. I think of them as nice daily appliances as opposed to aspirational cars like my former Porsche Turbo or my current Lamborghini Diablo. Nice places to be during the daily grind....
So, you tease us by revealing that you have a BMW 335i and a Lamborghini Diablo, but yet you don't fill out your profile....shame on you!
I only wish the M3 wagon was available here. I'm headed to the dealer today to play with the configurator. I'm thinking 4 doors, Yas Blue on white, 3 pedal, competition package, carbon fiber roof and lighting package.
Stick is to amuse you and if you like to kick the clutch and drift, aside from that you will never be able to shift fast enough. I love my paddles, yet I do love the 6spd in my Z4 too, but two different experiences. I wanna hear the revs with the top down, drift my canyon, and have a laugh. The 5'er paddles are wonderful out on the highway.
