I may be wrong but that momo steering wheel looks quite unique, I thought they all had 6 screws to attach to the hub. Beautiful interior on this real SP and beautiful car too Jon
We've been stripping the car to bare aluminum. Coming along. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Ok, so as impressed as I am at the quality of the body, i wasn't expecting this. What plans do you have for painting? Shawn
These prototype cars are all individual, no one is exactly like the others. These Pictures are fom that time in the 206 SP book and this steering wheels has only four screws. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Work is moving forward with the body almost completely removed. The glass windscreen had a crack and so a new one is being made. My motor cleared customs and arrives in San Diego next week. A fun project for sure! I need to know if the interior exposed aluminum is black or bare aluminum. Also the doors interior side are they black or bare aluminum. Also does anyone have a lead on period correct gauges?? Thanks for any help as I restore this Dino.
Hey John Your project is moving along quicker than I had anticipated. I am amazed... Let me know when you get the engine in the in shop. Olivier
If you search on Google, you'll find many restored 206s. Some with black interior and others aluminum. I think it was black originaly. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
More progress on the Dino. The body has been completely removed and now I can finish with disassembly, then have the frame powder coated. My engine arrived from the Netherlands today!! Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
The body is completely off the farm now and some decisions can be made. First thing is to move the pedal box so I can reach them!! The originals had 13" wheels and these are 15", if I change to 13" then the brakes have to be changed and the rears go inboard. We will see what shakes out. I'm open to all suggestions and help. Even if I go with 15" wheels I'm going to need new ones made to match the original design. Glad to see the engine made it safe and sound. Sorry, it took as long as it did. Overall, I think the 206 Dino is the best motor this project. I would personally would go with 13" and try to stay as close to original as possible.
I just found this thread! So cool, I love the 206S!! If you don't mind me asking, where did the gearbox and suspension components come off of?
Today was the first trial fitting of the motor. The motor is from a Fiat Dino Spyder 2 Litre. The fit wasn't bad, It did line up with existing mounting points but there will definitely be modifications done to the engine. Everything looks doable except for the fact that the distributor sticks out the front about 3 inches. I don't know yet how this will be resolved. I'm also going to need to source a Fiat Dino transmission case to make the adaptor for the gearbox. I'm having wheels made to look like originals but in 15 inch for a better selection of tires seeing this is going to for the street. I'm also replacing the Wildwood brakes with Dino 206 Calipers and am going to inboard rear brakes like the originals. I have gauges coming in about 8 weeks ordered from Veglia to match originals. The windscreen had a crack so a mold was made and a new one is being made. All the suspension is done with the shocks rebuilt, hubs rebuilt etc etc. The body was hand stripped and lightly blasted.. You could go with crank triggered ignition and skip the distributor altogether. Looks like a blast when you get it finished.
Awesome progress on the 206SP. Definitely has changed a lot since I saw it last Dec! P.S.: I spot my car!
1. Could you not cast up a bell housing adapter? 2. Are you going to correct the location of the gear lever, ie. originally in the centre of the car. 3. I wonder if the distributors could be moved to the back of the heads instead of the front? Enjoy. Pete
Look at the Xdi ignition system.....Used frequently as aftermarket ignition on 308's. Have installed my self and it works like a charm. Try searching FC if you need more info. Best regards Peter XDi Ignition Systems Archives - Electromotive
Jon, do you have a contact with Veglia? The Electromotive system is absolutely fantastic, adjustability all over the place. You will love it. Regards, Alberto
