Anyone got an idea to remove the residue that builds up from the vinyl off-gassing of a closed up car from the car?

I have not, in more years than I care to admit, found anything better to clean glass than good old wadded-up newspaper and 50/50 vinegar/water (or your favorite glass cleaner). The newspaper is the most important component! (it also remains the best way to serve fish and chips). :)

In the last 50 years I have washed a few miles of glass. The secret to clean glass is the best glass cleaner. Get Spray Way glass cleaner.....available at Costco. No ammonia is the secret ingredient. Ammonia = streaks.
News paper is an old wives tale....but if you like it use it, any paper towel is fine also, but the best is Job Squad brand.

It seems newspaper ink formulation has degraded in recent years, but I too am a disciple of the "wadded newspaper" method. Miraculous results.

To get at that darned spot between the instrument binnacle and the windshield where my hand doesn't fit, I have bought one of these: [http://www.amazon.com/Invisible-Glass-Reach-Clean-95161/dp/B0017K69MA/ref=sr_1_1?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1463235318&sr=1-1&keywords=Invisible%20Glass%20Reach%20and%20Clean%20Tool,%2095161&tag=viglink22303-20 (not sure why this Amazon link redirects to a 3rd party site; the HTML looks correct)

It is still too thick to pass completely through, but at least I can clean that area thoroughly.

Try 0000 steel wool and personally I prefer Stoners Invisible glass for a cleaner.

I like using newspaper as well. It is lent free.always use the black and white and never the comic section (colored ink).

Even windex works well if I use newspaper; if I use paper towels...streak city. Perhaps newspaper IS an old wives tale but apparently, old wives know how to clean windows! :)

Over the years I have tried many products ,the one that that has worked the best by far for me , is an AutoGlym car glass paste.
    Hope this helps.

ZEP 40 carried by Amazon. We used to use it to clean optics prior to thin film deposition. There is no better.

Thanks for the suggestions guys - I should have mentioned I'm also an old-fashioned newspaper proponent but this film (which is only visible in glancing light, looks clean in full light) won't budge with either window cleaner or vinegar/water mix. I'll try and get the Autoglym block I think as it sounds like it's a slight abrasive.

    Have you tried RainX??

They make one coating for the outside of the windshield, but offer another, for the inside that is anti fog....

And don't mix them on the rag!!

IIRC the anti fog, cuts thru grime and then once dry polishes out to the final treatment.
There was also a good suggestion in another thread for helmet lenses.......I made a note of it. but will have to find it.

Plexus Anti Staitic Plastic cleaner from Pegasus Racing.

I know you are thinking "glass" but the film on laminated safety glass, is actually a plastic coating!

This fills minor scratches and aids in future cleaning, per the info

The plastic is PVC and it is ....between the lites of glass, not exposed on one side.
    That's why its called laminated.

Do NOT use newspaper. There can be grit in this low grade paper and you can scratch the windows! Use a fresh microfiber cloth, and the Stoner glass cleaner which is widely available and you will be fine.

I've dealt the same grease/grime vapors that were hard to get off the inside windows, and over the years I've used lots of glass cleaners by themselves. None of them, even Sprayway could get rid of it by themselves. However, I saw a 3 step video, tried doing what he did, and I now have clear streak free windows!

I tried it first in our daily drivers and now I've done it in all of our cars. It should be noted, at step 2) I used option 2 the rubbing alcohol rather than a magic eraser as I didn't have a magic eraser handy. I am really thrilled with the results on our cars. Good luck!

    Here is the video.

Thanks for all the helpful replies folks! On a side note - bet I'm the only Ferrari owner whose hands fit between the binnacle and the glass :) so no excuse for dirty glass...

And for those of us who can't, I'd highly recommend a product like this.
Manufacturer doesn't matter. Even the "as seen on TV" does a great job. I ignore their special pads and just use a microfiber on it.

The best product I've found for non coated/tinted windows is a glass polish. Griots and Zaino are two I've found that work as advertised and are extremely easy to use.
