Makes me wonder whether Vettel sabotaged his own performance to "activate" that clause

Well whatever the case, Nico can stay right where he is. He is not needed at Ferrari, though Kimi does need to go.

And why is that? So far this year he's doing better then Seb, IF Kimi is given the right car he is still one of the very best in the buisness, and he sure can drive the current car...

Darn quick. I too don't understand the 'hate' toward the guy..... I think it's the same kind of thinking as the 'F1 all sucks' crowd likes to spout, sort of 'fashionable'.

As always, the latest hotshot rookie should be hired by Ferrari. It's been the same here forever.... Fortunately, they know better than the peanut gallery. ;)

    Cheers,
    Ian

Actually they are looking to extend Kimi's contract.. This is all press rumor, nothing more.. In equal cars, Kimi would kill Nico, there isn't even a comparison.

+1...Rosberg is playing everything to his advantage right now. I actually believe the collision Sunday helps him beyond maintaining his points lead. He knew exactly what he was doing.

This is a guy who is in a do-or-die situation and even his most ardent detractors must give him credit for getting the job done. Pressure hasn't always been his ally. I said after the second race that I see him winning this year's WDC, and nothing has happened to change my opinion.

Why would Ham leave? Getting smacked around by his teammate should only increase his resolve to improve his craft and get another title. Everything has gone Nico's way this season...not the time to just pack up and leave.

Kimi can come off as pretty damn unlikeable with his "cooler than thou" persona. Personally I like him but I can see why some wouldn't.

So you wouldn't trade Kimi for Max?

Also, Ferrari hasn't been right in this line of thinking. They held on to Massa for WAY too long. So no, they really didn't know better.

Alonso to Mercedes would be the most epic thing to happen to F1 in years

Because it's time for the new blood in the sport to get a chance. Has Ferrari won a championship since 2007? No. Has Kimi won ANY championship since 2007? No. Keeping Kimi will not result in Ferrari winning a championship. Ferrari will score points, but they won't win a championship with Kimi, and Kimi certainly won't win the F1 drivers championship again. It's time to move on, just like Ferrari moved on from Massa it's time they let Kimi go.

Kimi's role is to support Vettel, not win the WDC.
Seb's role is to win the title.

If Ferrari builds the car, he will do it. No need for fresh blood. At least not on the drivers side

Who to replace? No matter who would leave Mercedes would have the same Problem they have now with Alonso/Hamilton or Alonso/Rosberg. Two alphas fighting each other like at McLaren in 2007 not to the benefit of the team....

No way Rosberg would leave Mercedes now that the team is at the top and Rosberg is in "like a boss" mode. I see Hamilton leaving before Rosberg. Also Rosberg knows that he won´t be able to get a seat at a top team easily, while Hamilton with his 3xWDC and his gangsta style can go wherever he wants.

Hamilton probably is eager to go to Ferrari, just for the paycheck and the lifestyle, but I doubt that Ferrari would want/afford to have both him and Vettel.

Ferrari hasn't won nothing since 2007 because Felipe was robbed the 2008 title, and after that Ferrari never had the best car again. period.

It wouldn't surprise me if VET has VETo :) over any proposed #2. If so, HAM will never be his teammate at the Scuderia. Besides, why would HAM go anywhere as #2?

Agree with one of the posts above: Ferrari should secure Carlos Sainz, Jr. as soon as possible. I think he is massively underrated. He stacked up incredibly well against Max when his car was not plagued by unreliability. He is very quick, calm, consistent and has shown excellent race craft. He would also not be disruptive to the team chemistry unlike Rosberg, Ricciardo, Hamilton, Alonso, etc. His upside potential is also much greater than Grosjean.

Why would any team give any driver a veto ?? Unheard of.

Think about it, who runs the place, the driver or, in this case, Ferrari management.

Why would you be surprised? They were willing to give VET just about anything to get him, especially coming into a team with a crap car. You think MS didn't have any influence over who his teammate was? You seriously think he would have accepted a teammate who was a threat? Get real.

Agree. But more than that Ferrari need to find a new Adrian Newey. That's what will take them to wdc/Wcc glory.

    +1 to both of you.

There is no reason to even speak of Kimi replacing atm. Kimi has been on it all year, very close and occasionally ahead of Vettel. This is exactly what Ferrari need. Vettel is the golden boy earning the million a week paycheck, Kimi is there to back him up and when **** goes bad, he's now back in a position to take over Vettel's job.

He's still bloody quick, I think there's no big shame in being beaten (narrowly!) by a 4x world champion. Furthermore, Vettel and Kimi both get along swimmingly, why mess with that? We've seen it time and time again, intra-team fighting is never good for team image and has the possibility of championship losing, most notably in 2007 with Ham and Alonso.

Can you imagine if Ferrari next year builds the best car, but replace Kimi with whoever...and they lose the championship to someone else? On the 10th year of the guy they just dropped?

Right now, talk of replacing Kimi, with the performance he's been doing all year and the harmony he brings to the team, is stupidity of the highest order. Don't fix what isn't broken.
