Speciales can go to track without prior adjustments. Once the tyres are warmed up understeer is minimal...

    copied from the other thread

"Started at 32lbs cold, was 42lbs after the first session, took 10 lbs out while hot which dropped it to 24lbs before the next session. The car yelled and screamed at me not to drive due to low tire pressure during the next session and finally deactivated the TPMS out of disagreement.. took 4 laps to get the tires up to temp and held 31lbs hot for the rest of the day.

No issues with the camber. Obviously would have liked a better track setup but I had to drive the car home at the end of the day. The stock set up on a Speciale is a fine balance, no understeer at all on the track. "

It is a brilliant track car and to add to the F12 v Speciale discussion, my wife had her FF (not an F12 but somewhat similar) at the event and I drove it back to back with the Speciale. Two very different cars but both vary capable on the track. I didn't time my laps in the FF but wasn't much slower. I could reach much higher speeds in the the straights because I could exit corners so much faster in the FF than the Speciale.

Also, we had a very experienced driver in a 458 Spider and all 3 Speciales were lapping him all day, it wasn't even close. He is now looking for a Speciale

Eh, I call bull****. The difference on most tracks between a Spider and a Speciale is like 2.5 seconds on a 1.5 minute lap. How could he be lapped all day? You'd have to be doing like 1 hour long sessions just to lap him once.

If he was as good as you say he was, he'd probably be neck and neck with you the entire time simply due to skill alone. Put the Spider on Cup2 like the Speciale, and it will be even closer.

I know the car is great and all, but you're way overexagerrating the difference in performance. I'm sure it feels way quicker and sounds way quicker, but we already have seen lap times for each car and you can just put better tires on the Spider to make it even closer.

+1. The speciale is definitely a better car vs the spider but being " lapped all day " is an exaggeration.

Sorry dude but BS right back at you.. we did an 8 hour session as the track was open all day long for a private event that had 10 cars and he WAS lapped all day long. in 30 mins, I would lap him twice and he's a better driver than I am. He used to lap me when we raced Vipers competitively at Sebring and Daytona.

It's not a small difference in performance of the cars.. it's night and day. Not sure if you own one or driven one on the track but they are in completely different leagues.

Not an exaggeration in the least bit.. I was doing 1:19s and the Spider was doing 1:24s.. I lapped him many times during the course of the 8 hour day. We didn't have specific sessions as the track was open all day and people entered/exited at will. I passed him multiple times throughout the day. Sometime due to the separation of when we each got on track but also lapped him after both of us being on the track for 30+ continuous mins.

no need to exaggerate when we're all friends, it's all on film with telemetry and have experience doing wheel to wheel racing together.

I was unaware point-by passing is considered "wheel to wheel" racing...and how much was the warp drive option?

The event on film was a private track day with 10 cars and I asked for point by passing. The wheel to wheel racing we did in Vipers was several years ago in Vipers at Sebring and Daytona. Not sure I understand your question.

Then he's actually not anywhere near as skilled as you claim because we already know the Spider is nowhere near 5s slower on a 1:20 lap, anywhere.

Instead of getting a Speciale, he should just get cup 2 tires, tweak his suspension a little perhaps, and just practice more.

We've seen tons of lap times for coupes, spiders, and speciale. It's faster, yes, but not as you say. If you want faster lap times, learn to just drive faster.

How it feels on the track is an entirely different question than how it performs. Maybe tracking a spider just feels bad, but it's nowhere near as slow as you claim.

Or the poor guy with the 458 Spider should take immediately the 488 Spider, then he can also without more practice blow away easy the entire Speciale gang.

(And now please no stories about sound and 9000rpm's...)

I am of the opinion the Speciale is very collectible. In fact, I believe the CS, Scud, and Speciale are all collectible. They are all incredible machines and had the pleasure to own all 3 at the same time. It was fun to get to know each car as their philosophy of build is similar, however their characters completely different. I ended up selling the CS and Scud and kept the Speciale. This wasnt because it was the best car of the three, its because it meant something more to me than just a phenomenal car. I have seriously entertained offers far above what I paid for the car, but just cant let it go for now. One day, that will probably change, but for now its with me.

I posted these pics in another thread, but found it appropriate to place it here as well :D

    Jesse guys.

Jasone is just having fun and trying to share. You guys are brutal. He spent a good amount of time just to cut his video down and post. I thought this forum was to share and not to create animosity. Probably why many post only a few times.

These are all good cars and some are better in one area while others are purposefully built for many areas.

Amazing that anyone here would buy an Aperta at MSRP without flinching and forget about all the crap regarding beating the Spider down for cowl shake. Cowl shake all forgotten when it's a limited run. Just a limited run with cowl shake but still a great car.

Let the beatings commence. Send all comments to the Mayor please since he's the chosen whipping post. Yes and it's still PR too. Just kidding!
Jasone keep having a blast with your car man. Must be great to share this with the wife!!

There were a few factors. I didnt drive them much, they appreciated in value or stayed consistent, and I wanted a 458CH. I sold the CS and SCUD and picked up an Argento 458CH for track only and kept the Speciale for street only. With these models holding their values so strong, its easy to move in and out without absorbing much cost of ownership. The values may be high relative to other vehicles, but the total cost of ownership is actually much lower.

For me the 488 was too beautiful and too easy to drive, I need the kick with the paper bag over my head... :)
