Don't know if this will be a useful link, as it looks far too long. If not, I accessed this from the Speed TV website. Sorry about my computer ignorance, but this is absolutely spectacular!

Thanks! All these decades later, we have still not seen his kind, have we?

And I doubt we ever will again. :(

As Jacques (?) noted, "he was different."

    RIP Gilles,

The times when a driver can <now> drive like Gilles did <then> and get away with it are over.

Why? The cars and circuits are safer by light years.

Mad Max might be a contender to step into his shoes.Let's see what he can do this weekend.

When I look at Gilles sliding that beast of a Ferrari around it reminds me of why I became enchanted with Formula 1. Now, the cars are on rails (seemingly), and there's not anywhere near as much dramatic tension. Mario has been saying for 15 - 20 years that the cars need more horsepower than they can put down on the track. He's correct; reduce downforce and watch the cars slithering around. Driving greatness will reveal itself again.

Great tribute. I have watched it several times with great emotion.
Gilles is - to date - the only racing driver whose passing has been recognised by Ferrari when they celebrated him on 8th May 2012 at Fiorano. I was privileged enough to be there. It was not the presence of his son, Jacques or of Fernando or Felipe that made the day but of all the mechanics of his time, all dressed in their yellow Agip shirts and black trousers and the emotion that they still had for him.

I sat with Forghieri and Borsari for a long time and listened to them remember.

A day I will never forget and also why I carry the number 27 when I can

    Same question here.....

And today they don't have to worry about hitting the skirts on the kerbs etc as he did in many cases.

    Cheers,
    Ian

He sure makes me proud to be a Quebecer/Montrealer. A truly special driver, in the same vein as Senna. Sadly, we haven't seen another since.

    Great tribute! Thanks for sharing.

    Whoa!

I loved him almost like a son. Just fantastic to watch.

    But the most talented ever?

Debatable. We should probably leave it at that. ;)

    RIP Gilles,
    Ian

I was 14 at the time of Gilles Passing. I cut out Newspaper articles of his death (at the time). I just came across them last week. I sat and read a few of them.
    Still my favorite driver ever!
