Well I did find the leak guys, on the left side fuel pump cover. It's leaking right in the middle of where the round molding is. Sadly I can't see any visible cracks yet and it isn't coming out of the fuel house/connector at this area. It's like the crack is inside the round molded area.

Looks like a new pump for me then, I wish they sold the covers separately.

Sorry if these seems obvious but from the pictures and video it looks like the pressure has cracked in the plastic casting.
I wonder if the cap could be have a new fuel fitting adapted to it rather that replace the entire cap, as it only going to happen again.

WOW!, that's really leaking, now I'm sorry I threw away four brand new covers when I did my conversion. I never thought they would be needed.

Dave- Yup, I saved that photo. The 612s are starting to have leakage problems, too, and their covers are very similar and also fitted to the 599s.

The leak in the movie is obviously coming from the pressure regulator. That appears to be an obvious safety concern. DOT should be made aware of it.

In any case a bespoke cover for 575's would be easy to make out of aluminum with an inline regulator since the pump doesn't mount from it.

It never ceases to amaze me how they go to such lengths to prevent wire connectors from coming adrift yet stint on the more important things.

Awwww no way, I could have done with those lol.

I've found some on ebay just now, asked the seller if he's willing to sell the cover separately.

If not i'll get a new one.

Bosch really seem to have lost their way in the 21st century. One would think for something that has as much liability potential as a fuel system, it would be made better.

Dave, remember when we looked at these covers and concluded that, while they may have been made differently from the 550 covers, they still looked & felt as cheap as the 550's? I certainly didn't like the idea of the regulator being molded into the cover - that just seemed to be a bad design from the getgo.

So true, John. I replaced a LH fuel pump in a low miles 430 last year. Customer stated that there was a "heavy fuel smell" present. Once the side panels were removed, the pump looked just like the one posted; there was a significant crack in the regulator which resulting in a major leak. A very poor design that (very easily) could have resulting in a vehicle fire.

So true, you could clearly see the fuel running down through the heat shields right on to the top of the rear exhaust silencer. Thank god i never drove it once I could smell the fuel, it's a perfect recipe for a fire.

I had the right side fuel pump cover plate crack at the retaining stud that holds the two fuel lines in their sockets. The pressure blew the fuel line out of it's socket and pumped 15 gals. of gas into the trunk and onto the road. After having the car towed back to my garage I inserted two drill bits into the trim ring and using a 12" bar turned the ring off. After that it is easy to remove the pump assembly. I center drilled where the stud had pulled off and using the same bolt and nut that had pulled out of the cover, through bolted the retainer back in place from the back side. The fix cost nothing and no more gas smell or leaks. When you through bolt from the back reuse the small plastic collar that was left on the bolt when it pulled apart, that will allow you to have the same amount of hold down pressure that it had originally. Coat the bolt with a good gasket sealer to be on the safe side.

Great result, sadly the crack in mine had progressed beyond the hole. You like me would have found getting rid of the petrol smell was the longest job..

Pull the carpet out, easy job, and get yourself a Tornador-Black. Best detail tool I ever bought, engines, wheels, dash, carpets etc., just pick the cleaning solution appropriate for the job.

Reviving this old thread in hopes there is some update or consensus if the only solution to the fuel smell in the back corner of the car is a failed fuel pump cover or regulator and the only fix is a new fuel pump. Has anyone started making a replacement cover? I have a 2003 575 with 30k miles. Have not racked and dug into the area to find the problem.

Last I looked, they make one for the 550, but not for the 575M. In the olden days, the entire pump was about the same price as one of the 550 aluminum covers. Have not checked recently.

Looked, $500 or so and more than when I bought mine.
