    Hi Fredric,
All the Mistral COUPE had an aluminium body.
The interior was full leather, except for the dashboard (always black vinyl).

It seems only fitting that the first post in this thread shows a picture of the car I will present here. As you all know these beauties are getting quite expensive so some creative thinking was needed. In the end a friend in the Swedish Maseraticlub and myself bought it together!
It was just an opportunity too good to miss. Let me present 109 *1638*.

This car was originally sold new in Sweden in 1968. As far as we have been able to find out, just thre Mistrals were delivered new here. This is one of them. It has had few owners and for some reason it was taken off the road in 1980 with 59 000 km on the clock.
I saw it for the first time 5 years ago when I bought my QP-1. The same owner had them both. Now after more than 10 years of ownership and work, it is ready again for the road after 36 years! The owner decided to sell, so I bought my second classic Maserati from him. So it is now re-united with its old QP-1 friend.

What I like the most about this car, is that it is very original. It has never been restored. It has been re-sprayed a long time ago. Most likely Before 1980? This is yet to be determined. The full leather interior is original. Color is Rosso Cordoba, interior Senape.

Some re-commissioning has been necessary, brakes, fuel lines, fuel injection system fully restored etc. Now it runs as well as it looks!
The plan is to keep it as it is with its beautiful patina. It is not "newly restored perfect" in any way. It is just in beautiful patinated condition.
Tight fit in the garage :)

    A very nice colour combination.

    Would I be correct is assuming it's a 4.0-litre version ?

I'm guessing that would be PowerProps then.
They have a good reputation I gather.

    Nice garage BTW!

The auction market seemed a lot stronger here than in Monterey although as you say not all Maseratis sold. Amazing prices recorded for some Porsche 911 though!!

    Hi all,
I have a question for you.

My Mistral will (hopefully) be ready after almost 4 years of restoration sometime in 2017.
Sadly, the people I chose to do my interior has turned out to be unreliable.

This means that there are some parts missing that I need to get replaced.
So; do any of you have the tunnel cover and the console on top (where the ash tray and window regulators are) out of the car?

I need all the measurements to replicate it. Or better yet, a mold to work from.

Or if anyone has a used one they want to part with, I would like to hear from you. I know MIE has a tunnel cover at an OK price, but it is missing the cover for the hand brake, and they do not have the top console, and I need both.

Also, my car came with the optional "rollo" - the luggage cover. If anyone knows where I could source something like that, I would be grateful to hear from you.

My car is a 1966 4000, if that is of any use.

    Thanks, and greetings from Norway,

    Alexander

    Hello!

I have this Mistral 4000, it came from Canada in 1988 and was taken apart for the restoration of some other cars. I got the rolling chassis and used parts from stock like the gearbox, the dashoboard, instruments, brakes, all inner and outer parts for the doors, the windscreen frame, the propshaft, the fuel tanks and pumps and other parts. The last owner will sell me the matching engine if I make it a car again.
Now I am looking for the following parts:

    front and rear seats
    water temp instrument
    everything for the trunk
    handbrake lever
    left roof moulding
    rear window and chrome frame
    trunk lock mechanism
    chromed side mouldings

I am really interested in buying these parts. I am in Germany, but would buy from everywhere....

    Regards

    Hein

Is there anything different about the construction of these tires? Is it just a certification issue? Thanks for posting!

This very rough 4.0 liter spyder sold for $478,500 at the Gooding auction in Amelia Island.

The car was mostly complete and original, but needed everything. The scariest part was all the rust. There were large holes in the rocker panels and heavy electrolysis in the front wings. To restore this car correctly the exterior metal would have to be removed, the inner structure repaired and then the outer skin re-welded.

I do not want to even guess what it will cost to restore, but it will take at least 3 years, probably longer.

On the positive side, it is a 4.0 liter car with its dry type Lucas injection, so the new owner is at least starting with a car with all the right features.

    Ivan
