The strategy didn´t work, but they had to try something. They were faster but couldn´t overtake, so they tried a big undercut. In the end it worked at 50%: they got rid of Ricciardo but Verstappen didn´t stop. Hey, **** happens.

And now some food for thought. Ricciardo makes a banzai move that almost finishes with him crasing Vettel and everybody says "oh, how brave". But if an engineer tries a different strategy, based on their calculations, their computers, Pirelli´s estimations and in the fact that at this ****ty track it´s impossible to overtake, and then if the strategy doesn´t work the engineer is not brave but an idiot. Again, this is a sport: **** happens.

I think a lot of people follow sports teams due to a need to live vicariously. If someone is unhappy with his/her station in life or feels a lack of achievement, then its pretty easy to grab onto something that succeeds ... like a sports team, a rock star, etc., and bask in reflected glory. These types would, I'm guessing, be very fickle and jettison a team on the downhill slide. Ferrari fans have never struck me as being in this group.

Ferrari's race strategy has been laughable ever since the Todt/Brawn/Schumacher era came to an end. Add in poor one lap qualifying pace over the last ten years and that's the basic picture of a team with fundamental problems that it can't sort out. Even when they split the tire/pit stop strategy like they did on Sunday, they put the wrong driver on the right strategy!

I think you all need to remember who is in charge of building the Mercedes F1 cars, none other than Aldo Costa who came over to Merc from Ferrari.. So in a sense, Ferrari are responsible for their own situation.

When there is a political battle within the company and good engineers get thrown under the bus, then you end up like this.

Think about my friend Luca Marmorini who gets thrown under the bus, goes to work as a consultant for Renault and now they are kicking Ferrari around too..

You can't blame the drivers, or the mechanics, they can only run what they are given. The problem clearly is still with the car design, and the top designer they had is now in the winners seat over at Merc. I know James and he will prevail but he has to rebuild, and that doesn't happen over night. Most don't know that James wore the red uniform during the Schumacher era, was part of the Rory Byrne crew.

Stevie Wonder could have seen that you needed to undercut max with Kimi.

They were worried about Ricciardo while Max goes and wins the race. Abu Dhabi 2010 all over again

How do you undercut someone who is not going to stop anymore?

They couldn't undercut based on the initial gap at the 2nd stop.

But maybe Ferrari did expect Kimi to overtake RB rooky Max with still lot's of laps to go, DRS and with tyres that were 2 laps newer. Max ending the race on mediums that ran 31 laps.

Which shows he's good IMHO. I'm reading that Renault have made real progress with the new motor. RB could really bring some much needed excitement.

Vettel also couldn't take Verstappen when he was behind him early in the race...

    Ferrari continues to lose...

Sebastian Vettel described Ferrari's first day of practice ahead of Formula 1's Monaco Grand Prix as "scrappy" after he and Kimi Raikkonen struggled on Thursday.

And then after qualy, watch, he's gonna blame it on another one of those mysterious "unclean weekends", but hey we're still competitive and will beat Mercedes. *shaking my head*

Meanwhile in the soda company camp...

Red Bull speed in Monaco 'absolutely unbelievable'.Ricciardo outpaced Mercedes' Hamilton by 0.6s in practice; Sky F1's Brundle and Herbert wowed by RB12's pace and poise:

    wonk, wonk.

Well, at Monaco we sucked even in the years that we won all but two races (one of them being Monaco), so I wouldn´t read too much in what happens this weekend.

    Yes, of course.
Beside, I cannot see anything wrong with a team dominating if they do a better job.
All this negative rhetoric would stop if Ferrari was collecting a string of WDCs and WCCs, I am sure.
And if the Scuderia cannot catch up MB, then they don't deserve to win; it's as simple as that.

Today, the Soda Company has officially usurped Mercedes domination fair and square at the principality.

Ricci put in a stonking lap and bested both mercs in equal combat. What a blazing lap by Ricci, wow, just wow. Ferrari? Nowhere...

Ricci you are my hero, seb whining on radio again, well you remain a zero.

    From ESPN F1:
"The threat from Ferrari failed to emerge again, with Sebastian Vettel nearly a second adrift of Ricciardo's pole position lap."

Well, he's right when he says the title race is still open. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like Ferrari are doing the chasing though. RB are well and truly back in the hunt with the best aero package, and at last, an engine of reasonable power. Should be an interesting few races ahead. If Ferrari want to compete, they need to sort out their Chassis asap.

The race is still open, but i don't think Ferrari is still in it.

This far into the season and the car is still a mystery for some regimes - Ferrari at a loss to explain Formula 1 qualifying problems - F1 - Autosport

--Ferrari still does not understand why it is struggling to get the most out of its SF16-H in Formula 1 qualifying, according to team principal Maurizio Arrivabene.

Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen were mystified by their pace in qualifying for the Spanish Grand Prix and worked in F1's subsequent in-season test to cure the problem.

However, Ferrari struggled again in Monaco, with Vettel 0.930 seconds adrift of polesitter Daniel Ricciardo with Raikkonen two tenths further back--

The race is not open: Mercedes is going to destroy Red Bull from now on, as usual. Maybe at Hungaroring they´ll have another chance, but that´s all.

Now it´s a battle for being the best of the rest between Red Bull and our red guys. I think we can do it: at Spain we had a lot more race pace, it´s just that we couldn´t overtake, and Monaco, well, it is Monaco.

Is the Ferrari slump due to the time Allison was away when his wife passed?
