Saw part of an old Colombo episode the other night, "Any Old Port in a Storm" with Donald Pleasance. The real star was a red 330 GTS. Anyone know the car? Bob Z.
we're big Columbo fans as well, and I recall seeing that car in the episode. They often feature cool stuff, including a couple of Daytonas (I distinctly recall the one Roddy McDowell drove) and many Jags, often "destroyed" in the plot. s
There are two instances of a red 330 GTS being featured in Columbo. There's the episode that you mention, Any Old Port in a Storm, and then there was the Columbo movie called Columbo: Double Shock. I've seen neither episode, so I can't be certain whether or not the same car was used for both. Here are some pics from the IMCDB website. The first (CA plate "298 QXO") is from Any Old Port in a Storm and looks like it might be fitted with Borrani wire wheels. The others are from Double Shock and show that particular car had alloy wheels and a red interior. Bob, you just saw the "Any Old Port" episode. Do you remember which wheels were on the car or the color of the interior? Looks like a red car with a red interior. Must have been repainted or retrimmed as none of the 330 GTS Spiders were originally red/red. Marcel Massini
Double Shock is a pretty cool episode with Martin Landau (think Mission Impossible) playing dual roles as twin brothers who both have motives to kill their rich uncle. As is the standard format for Columbo, the viewer knows the murderer and watches while Columbo tries to solve the crime. The twist here is that you don't know which of the twins did it. The GTS just makes it even more fun.
Almost every episode of this show had an interesting car in the background. The murderer and/or the murdered was always rich. I remember watching it as a boy and waiting for a cars to come on. The Daytona episode was the best. john
Yep, the characters always had these gorgeous, expensive homes and apartments, and always with a "wet bar"...I wanted to grow up like that! In contrast, he always ate "chilie" at his favorite "dive". Great show. s
Speaking of Colombo, I may have published this before, but.... About 6 years ago, we adopted 2 little orange kitties from the SPCA. They looked (and still do) very, very similar. When we took them to our vet for their first checkup, the vet said they looked so much alike that he couldnt tell them apart. So, he decided to do their exams and set up charts using their SPCA registration numbers. The first boy was number 8995 the exact VIN of my 66 Ferrari 330 GTC, so we named him Enzo! The second boy was named Colombo for Ferraris famed engine designer! (When Colombo fell through the second floor railing to the stone floor below and emerged unscathed and nonplussed, we began to call him Mr. Tough Boy or Toughie). s steve
