Thanks - I think. June is just around the corner, so maybe we will get a chance to meet. Regards, Rory
Me too but this car is just too nice for me. It belongs in a museum and not my garage. This is definitely for the collector with show barn.
I don't want to say that this car isn't a really nice example, but we don't look at it as a museum piece, either. My buddy and I own three other cars together and they all get driven regularly. That's why we put a clear bra on this just after we bought it. In fact, it went to an distant FCA event just a couple of weeks back. Not a good idea to let these things sit, you know...
Quick bump. With all the complements, I can't believe that we still have the car. We're open to reasonable offers...
It must be a good time to be shopping for a TR; it seems that the recent price run-up has 98% of those ever made currently for sale. But with two project cars about to come back and nowhere to put them, our lovely TR has to find another home soon. So I'm dropping the price to $174K with the hope of moving things along.
I knew I should have explained that. I had the forum administrator change the original post from $188K to $174K. I also asked him to update the mileage as we keep driving the car. Thanks for the interest.
We had to put the car in a neighbor's garage today, so we really have to get serious about selling it. I've attached a few more photos with the hope of pushing one of you over the edge... Why not let one of the auction companies offer it in Monterey? That's not far off. There at least 5 to choose from. Some will require absolute, but surely it will bring a good price being rare in color.
I recall that when my buddy and I were judging at the Concorso, any indication that a judged car was also for sale was sort of frowned on. Having said that, even though our TR was just there to be judged, we did get asked if we would sell it, so there are definitely potential buyers there. We've talked about trying the Monterey auctions, just because they are not very far from where we are and are such a draw, as you point out. Maybe it is just because I have no experience with auctions and can't imagine buying a car without talking to the owner and thoroughly inspecting and driving the car, that auctions scare me. And, even though a rare color could get a premium from a small number of potential buyers, what if those guys are elsewhere when your car rolls onto the block? Obviously, most people must not share my concerns or these auctions wouldn't be so popular. While I find auctions entertaining, I think that I am just too risk adverse to be either an auction buyer or seller. Thanks for the suggestions.
I hear you on the Auctions, but if you would go with reserve that might be better for you, but I think under a certain value they don't allow it at RM, Gooding, etc. Check on it I could be wrong. I saw the blue one last year at Monterey RM, and I think it sold for around 220 but it claimed low miles. I looked it over good, and I didn't think the mileage was correct and seems to have had a repaint but my memory may be failing. Look it up under auction results. That said I think the TR market has leveled off and may have pulled back with the rest of it. At all of the concorus, I think it's a shame they don't allow you to post at the min or max depending on your view, a business size card that says inquire.
Yes, a business card sized note that the car may be available shouldn't put anyone off, in my opinion. And I think you are right about the TR prices: the recent run up has brought so many on to the market that the pricing has stalled. Although the 512 TRs seem to be continuing to rise in value - of course, there are far fewer of those.
OK - We're willing to take $167,639. That's a $10K discount from what the original owner paid the dealer Hollywood Sports Cars. You certainly wouldn't have gotten that kind of deal in the eighties! Image Unavailable, Please Login
No, the market retreated as every TR ever made was put up for sale, so we decided to keep it for the time being. We actually just put a Tubi exhaust on it (should have done that long ago!). Now it sounds as good as it looks. Thanks for the interest.
