I recently bought from a forum sponsor, with a reputation of sending very recent belts. the belt I just received this week is dated September 30th 2014. Is that considered recent? I would of expected something made in 2015 at least. Thoughts?

I had read that, that's where I was able to figure out how old my belt was that I received. I'm just wondering if you would be happy with a 2014 belts in 2016.

Personaly, i would be cool with fitting them. Unless they were stored for the last two years with a couple of hundred pounds of weights hanging of them streching them :)
Being 2014 there not just going to explode like a time bomb when year 5 or 10 is reached.

Did you consider calling the sponsor? Ask him what he thinks?

Maybe the warehouse guy shipped old belts by mistake. Maybe if they were made in December 2014 it's not a big deal? I dunno, I think I'd as the guy who shipped 'em first, see what he says.

As to the original question, I have no idea how well or badly rubber degrades, the only point of reference I have is tires, which they tell me are good for 5-7 years from their "born on" date. I'd make a giant leap of faith and assume these are at least as sturdy, and Ferrari now suggests replacement every 3 years? So even if these are two years old, add three use years, makes them 5 years old when you swap them again.

Shelf life of Dayco belts is better than 5 years with no degradation. Put them on the car.

I agree, cause if 5 years was accurate we would have a section alone in threads that start with "my timing belt snapped...."
