Is it just me of is F1 less enjoyable than it is in the late 90s to 2001?

It's not much fun to watch. The lack of competition is one reason. The media coverage is terrible. I could go on. But yet we all still watch it. LOL.

The result of F1 being boring. I have become a fan of the endurance racing. Lemans, Daytona, Sebring and the ring 24. DTM is fun to watch also.

The big series don't care what the fans want anymore. They want TV coverage and sponsor's money. NASCAR and F1 have become so profitable they don't need fans anymore. They want the ability to convince a sponsor to fork over big money.

Next years cars look EPIC by comparison. Well, apart from the thong thingy which looks like guano. Giant rear tyres, low wings etc - it will be tremendous to see these monsters in action. Clearly, Monaco will be even less of a spectacle than it is now, but that's no biggie. We can drone on about how useless F1 is to watch now, but the reality is it isn't useless to watch. It might not be vintage stuff, but it's very acceptable viewing in my book. The TV coverage on SKY and the BBC is world class. We have more 'live' race data and in car camera angles to pour over than ever before. What's not to like?

If only we could get away from one team domination, life would actually be quite good. Come on - let's be positive about this! Enough negativity. It's getting on my man boobs.

I think most of those complaint are only following via NBC coverage only. While the sound impacts the fans in the stands. It has little affect on the remote fans. The problem, is in the US we get some horrible announcers that its a wonder they can put their clothes on.

F1 needs to be brave, and make its own online network, cable TV is competing against online streaming now, and they won't be ahead forever. I wish we could get Sky, I,be never watched a boring F1 race covered with Sky.

They've got 'unlimited' bandwidth available too. You get to choose which cameras you watch; every driver, every corner etc, your choice. Throw in telemetry, radio, and the timing screens etc & it could be *awesome!*.

The Sky app got close, but I'd need a second iPad to 'support' it.

The tech's certainly there. I'm hoping Tata are working on it......

The f1 transmission has ruined it.

 

I watch now more out of habit. the cars sound like crap, constant rule and engine/technical changes to manufacture excitement. Also what sport do you know of where testing is pretty much limited to a few days. Now if you start the season with a dog, you're pretty much stuck with that, and whoever has the advantage runs away with it.

 

No doubt that'll end up being Lewis Hamilton's fault somehow if this thread goes the way of every other F1 thread on Fchat these days!

I have the MotoGP subscription, and its great, I can start the coverage when ever I want, all practices, all qualifying, from all the classes, plus testing coverage and archives full of races if I want to go back. The down side is that it costs about $20/month, and if F1 wanted to go that way (I think they will sooner then later) people would complain about the cost.

 

+1....EXTREMELY reliable. It wasn't that long ago that teams would replace the cars after almost every race, and bring spare cars to boot.

 

I think in the UK, the Sky Sports (necessary to watch F1) is about £20 a month. On top of the ~£35 a month the standard TV already costs (and another £10 for the BBC license fee, and all you get is a shouty ginger on Sundays!).

If F1 did a package like MGP for about the same price, and all the features of Sky and their commentary (I think it's official F1 commentary world wide anyhow, at events etc), I'd very much welcome it.

As a bonus, ability to watch reruns of any season would be pretty damn solid.

 

Sky are robbers. I got a special deal for 40 a month for sky including sport but it ends soon - sure as hell not paying 70-80 a month for sky when the only time I turn on tv is to watch f1. Wouldn't be so bad if they just let you get the sport channels without paying for he normal ones


Someone needs to come up with a cheaper option. Even paying 10-20 dollars a race is fine with me that's cheaper than sky given I don't watch it for anything else

 

I read that most of those cars were actual vintage F1. The filmmakers wanted stunt men to drive, but the car owners said no way. Either we're driving or you're not getting the cars.

I miss refueling and the old fuel strategy. No one knew who was starting light or heavy. The refueling rigs added a bit more pit crew involvement and drama.

I think my boys bills there are up to about that now. ~$100 a month [70UKP.]

I've just noticed mine has reached >$150 recently! [Thats 'net too, but it used to be under a $100! ]

As noted, there has to be a better model.

Can you get Sky where you're at? My ex had it in the Algarve for ages. IIRC, it was almost "reasonably" priced too!

Yeah we can get Sky here, bit more than in UK though. Movistar however came with the internet package, and no one here really watches any TV. Can select English audio on almost all channels (except F1 of course). Even so I've watched no TV here, everything is done on my computer...My internet is so fast though, and now with very good ace stream I'm only 10 seconds behind during the race. I can live with that...My TV/monitor is 43'' so bigger than downstairs, too

IMO, if you live in the UK, sky is a pretty good deal. the basic tv has plenty of channels (from memory), you can get internet etc from them, so the sports addon isn't that bad. I think for the box alone they want €350, then set up, and to get all the channels I want I pay Pound equivalent + something on top. And then I would still need to go to Movistar for my internet (which is f'in fast, I must say).

 

They have been banned in MotoGP2 and 3, and they may get banned ion MotoGP too.

I don't agree.

What would be needed is the new type of barrier that absorbs impact, instead of a solid wall.

I cannot see why the Tamrambulla couldn't receive the same treatment as some US ovals.

Also, they never put chicanes at Indianapolis, even if the had many casualties.
