    this is on a 360.
Long story shot, I drained the coolant partially and added purified water temporarily without bleeding it.
I got out for a drive, during which I watched out for the water temperature and its good because the car is in motion.

Then I pulled over and stepped out of the car to check oil (when water temp is still under 210 F). For maybe 2-3 min I came back to the cockpit and see the temperature at 245 F. shut the engine immediately. I see no steam. But a weird squeezing sound somewhere, and that sound is what prompted me to stop checking oil and went back to the driver seat.

How bad is this? How long would a 245 F overheating do damage to the v8?

Did it boil over? Any leaks anywhere?

Let it cool down, refill and bleed properly. Give it a try.

    Maybe nothing to worry about.

no boil over, no leak, didn't see any water anywhere on the ground

after 3 hours and I started the car , seems nothing happened

did I just hit the jackpot?

Sounds like you caught it on time... Should be fine.

Is the weather hot where you are? Sounds like it was just expansion in the cooling system where it was getting towards the boiling point in there-you should be totally fine

That's not too hot (weather) unless it was a way hotter than normal day. You're good-bleed the system and make sure it's topped off before you close it up-def look for coolant on the ground when driving it the next few weeks. Of course make sure the fans are coming on when you're not moving

Just curious. If the car hit 245F, what difference does the ambient temperature make?

was thinking it might have been a very hot day and it was just enough to make it boil over. The op doesn't have his location on here, but say in New England it can hit 100 maybe a couple of time per yr-ive had my dd overheat going into the summer b/c it's been running low on coolant for mos in the cold with no issues. You flip the ac on the first real hot day and suddenly it's boiling at a stop light
