Yeah, I meant to mention that I was aware of that... which is why I pointed out that I was around before your "hiatus". In fact, if I remember correctly, you and I joined here just a few months apart and got our cars very close in timeframe. So we kinda "came up together" here... you've just been more vocal. ;)

I was taking my own recent perception with a grain of salt since I knew you always were very involved in most convos. Just wanted to mention it. Thanks again for everything Dave.

Jeff, it's all good and I really do appreciate your view point. I do try to offer whatever help I can. You would not believe how much time I spend helping future owners find cars or vet them. So, perhaps I'm too involved....

The problem here is not Dave, not FBB and not Daniel...

The problem is that this place is a business and a community and a sponsored discussion forum all at the same time and the business aspect inevitably censors or tries to censor a lot of the communal aspects of a community.

If I or anyone else finds an interesting product online and post about it, it immediately becomes more of a "Are you a schill?" "He's not a sponsor?" etc. etc. instead of focusing the discussion on product that could be an interesting one.

By being a user (especially a paying subscriber), one should not have to censor him or herself here when it comes to discussing our cars but it inevitably happens and will keep happening.

A paying user would like more ability to post about topics that matter to him and also would like more of a democratic process when making decisions on this site if it's indeed an actual community.

A sponsor who pays good money would also like to be able to post about his products and advertise and also I'm sure appreciate a certain level of protection, why shouldn't he if he's paying for it?

I don't agree with a lot of things on this site because there are a lot of contradictions: Sometimes Rob asks for people's opinions on what they want and other times he decides against what the majority's wishes are without even having a discussion. But I must say I admire him greatly and my hat's off to Rob Lay for being successful with this place because somehow everyone is able to live with all these contradictions, the site is probably very profitable so I suppose he must be doing something right.

    Carry on!

I think I agree with everything in there, but hopefully you didn't drop a perfect solution that I didn't pick up on and can implement, because I didn't see it. :D

Users came first, then sponsors wanted to be here, then competing sponsors wanted to be here.

From my perspective and I'm the ONLY one that has it, I have to fairly balance everyone. It isn't easy and I've made mistakes, I've opened this up to community discussion because I didn't have 100% confidence I wasn't making a mistake. Users need freedom, but it can't be unlimited. We have rules and most don't even have to do with commercial stuff. The commercial rules are simply you can't spam and you can't shill. If you are user and truly independent, then you are welcome to recommend a non sponsor. If you are user and want to negatively critique a sponsor, you can if following other rules about personal attacks and trolling. Some sponsors want no competition and no critiques, but that's not fair to user community. Sponsors are important, I wouldn't work full time on FerrariChat without them, but we don't have a single sponsor that is more than 5% of our revenue. Users are the wind that directs me where to sail the community, not any one sponsor.

I've posted something similar recently, but I will say it again.

This forum was really the first commercial forum I was a member of. Other may have been, but not heavy sponsorship. I was really ignorant to it all. I was also ignorant to my view of Rob in the past. Yep, my views are often very "rigid" but believe it or not, they do change over time.

I will go on record and say Rob has been very fair with me and he and I have extremely detailed discussions prior to me becoming a sponsor. It was a give and take and he was firm to protect his long time sponsors too while still being fair to me.

Knowing what I know today, I would have never jumped at him like a did when I left a couple years ago as I now can see all the crap he puts up with and has to deal with on a daily (hourly) basis. It's far more than I had ever realized. It's a job I would not want.

I think this entire thread will illustrate how fair he has been. In the Rossa section, this discussion was continued and he was nothing but fair to me there too.

I'm holding my end of the bargain and he clearly is also.

Thank You Rob for your response....I have personally been left a little bitter by some of the stuff that happened on this site but I certainly have tremendous respect and admiration for what you've accomplished and I can see that it's not an exact science and probably a daily hot potato.

Dave, I have always liked you from day 1 on this site and I'm glad you're back and your contributions are amazing. I'm sure I speak for everyone else when I say we don't like seeing you and Daniel in conflict, both you guys are very valuable people here.

I hate politics, and I do not have time for drama.... and since this thread is so far off track...

Dave, when are you making us some of these? And the challenge wheel inserts, too. (Now I have to check mine ;-)

+1. But, I can't begin to thank you folks enough for the stellar job you and the engineering team at NTN did on those lower timing chest bearings. Talk about a being an asset to the Ferrari community and solving a problem that affects so many models and cars. WOW! Finally, there's an ultra-high quality replacement bearing, backed by a long standing reputable company that I can feel comfortable warranting.

That is interesting as I looked 7-8 years ago and you did not have them....you only had the 308 version.

I posted a pic of your 308 inserts(see post #25).........if you are saying the 308 inserts you sell are the same as what comes installed in the 355CH wheels, they aren't.

Just looking at our website is says that the 355 challenge insert was added to our catalogue on Wednesday 24 December, 2008 so it may have been around the time you last looked.

You are quite right regarding the 308 inserts not being the same as the 355 Challenge

FYI if anyone has any questions about Sponsor standards. Daniel and Paul have now opened the door for Dave to hijack any of their threads.

Thank you for your kind words David - It means a lot and especially after the amount of time and effort that went into getting that particular product to market. (Let alone the cost of the bespoke tooling that ran into tens of thousands!)

My apologies Rob - I didn't realise I could not respond to the incorrect information that was on here about us not making a particular part?

Was your post in response to recent post user asking Dave for 355 Challenge inserts or was there prior post I don't remember saying that you don't make 355 Challenge inserts?

well, Daniel opened it up with his first post and way conversation went it was no longer a "sponsor thread". wasn't happy Daniel did it, but as we talked about it offline it was worth it for him. the consequences are that Dave now has some license to "return the favor" and I would be one sided to moderate one side only. I'm probably making more of it than needs to be, just a little irked being stepped on trying to keep the peace (which I know is fragile!). I think we're good now, Daniel isn't going around hijacking other threads, Dave is staying cool not returning the favor. If we were all still playing by the rules you would technically be fine just sending PM to user about the 355 Challenge inserts.

I had / have no intentions to hijack any of Daniels or Paul's (any sponsor's) threads. It's not something I feel is right.

Also, I have no issues with these guys - as I said before it's not personal. In my main engineering business I have a lot of friendly competitors and we often do business together.

My goals have been stated here. I own many Hill tools, some copies of Ferrari and some original (to my knowledge). Hill makes good stuff - I'm not going to un-endorse Hill because we will be offering competitive products. Our goals are to make items the best they can be with in some cases, improvements as we see fit (yes, I realize to some I'm biased when I say improvements).

Also, selling direct and having my own shop allows us to offer items at better price points. I feel that is all good for the community and it provides multiple options for the consumer.

In fact, had Daniel not blocked our IP, I would still post links to his site and still purchase some items from him as I had for several years (oil change kits, parts etc).

Rob - I was responding to a previous post by a user who said that we did not do the 355 Challenge wheel inserts. I think the only problem with sending a PM to the user is that it would only be that particular user that knew and the incorrect information would be still cast in stone for everyone else to see who read the forum? (Only in my opinion of course.)
