And keep in mind, the brembo "package" isnt 355mm front and rear.
This is absolutely true. There is not need for BBK's for street use. In fact I was able to get by just fine racing my winged 348 by dropping the weight out of it. I was around 2750lbs! Less weight makes the stock brakes work better and the wing helps too. For the street the only reason is for the "look." IMO having "brembo or ST" on the front calipers and "Ferrari" on the rear does not look that good. People really need to repaint the front calipers with the "Ferrari" silk screened in. Most people don't buy a 4 caliper kit. Most buy BBK for the front and keep the rear stock to keep the E-brake. I also think 18" is the best street and track wheel size. Not only does it look period correct for the 348/355 but there are many more street and race tire sizes and the 18" tire with a higher profile will transmit less damage from poor roads.
Gentlemen, I am seriously looking to pick up a set of big brake kit. I really like StopTech. Where can I pick a set up? Car: 355
I have a front set. I don't normally sell my gear because mostly it is a PITA, BUT, you seem like you know what you want to do. These are 355mm drilled rotors and Red Stoptech four piston calipers. Braided lines included. Leave rears stock which will allow you to retain your e-brake and with the four piston set up on the front you will maintain a balanced system. I have the e-brake on my rear big brake kit but it is hard to find and Big Bucks. PM me if interested. Jeff
hey Jon I'm going for a complete set, front and back while maintaining the ebrake. can you post pic of your front set. Maybe I can pick up a refer set to go with it
I installed custom Stoptech rotors and calipers on my 348. I am using the same size 355mmx32mm front and back. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
By custom do you mean stoptech made the hats for you for the 348 upright because that rotor size is standard stoptech. Have you had to do anything with different pad compound to adjust for brake bias or just letting the abs do all the work?
I bought Stoptech big brake rotors and calipers for a 350ZX on Ebay. The seller had not installed the kit and I got it for a really good price. The 350ZX Stoptech kit has 355x32mm front/back rotors. The rear calipers are the same part as the front however they have slightly smaller pistons. So I machined the rear calipers to match the front piston size and machined new pistons. I then hard-anodized the machined calipers/pistons, and power-coated all four calipers yellow. I bought a new set of piston rings and boots. I also pick-up a set of Ferrari caliper stencils on EBay. I machined the front and back hats and had them hard-anodized black. The back hat is of a two piece design to retain the emergency brake. The last step was to machine front/back spacers and powder coat them black. All parts and billet aluminum cost was under $2000. It cost an extra $40 to have the machined aluminum anodized. The overall weight is within 1/2lbs of the original hardware, however the car looks better especially when I install the challenge wheels. The mod as done two years ago and I have since tracked the car several times and the brakes function flawlessly with no ABS issues.

Bobb, those look great. They fill the gap much better. It looks like you got a 50 to 60% ratio. I will eventually pick up a set in yellow after i upsize the rims. Thanks for the pics.👍 Opinion: My theory of beauty is seen through the Law of Proportion. All objects in the known universe are more appealing if all the components that make up the objects are proportional in physical deminsion and spacing of such components. A 70% rotor diameter to overall wheel diameter ratio is what I'm shooting for but I don't see any brake kit bigger than a 14" dia.for the 355. 😇
Bruce, the overall wheel and tire diameter is relatively the same as the stock setup. just bigger rims with thinner tires(30 series). I understand the potential harshness of the ride but it's not a daily driver. I can always put the stock rims back on if things get too rough. I have 30 series on my e31 and believe it or not rides better than the stock ones. But then again the e31 suspension rides like a Boeing 747 to begin with.
