Ordered a new Ferrari front badge from Eurospares as the old one looks a bit beaten up from track use. The newly delivered one has a slightly different script, very obvious to see at the "e". Has Ferrari changed the script at some point and if so which would be the right one for a 1998 F355? The new somehow doesn´t look right...

I've never seen an "e" look like that on a genuine badge.
    Weird??!!

I stand corrected... looked at a 1975 365 GT4 BB and it has the same "e".
Might be an older style front badge.

Does not appear correct for the car at any rate... however, it looks like it is a more vintage version. All of the letters are off compared to your original badge, along with the details of the cavallino. The e and a are more rounded, the r has a more dramatic shoulder, and shorter hook with respect to the proportion of the following a, i has more weight, and the F has a lower and lighter weight bar... etc etc. With some poking around, it appears that the badge you have is more in line with some of the vintage variations of original Ferrari hood badges, below. If you look closely, there are some very subtle variations from one to the other, ranging from character font styling to spacing and cavallino detail:

    - circa 1956
    - circa 1957
    - mid-60s O.M.E.A Milano
    - mid-60s
    - unknown vintage
    - circa 2000

I'd say yours looks closest all around to #5, a vintage original of unknown year, unfortunately. The vintage section could probably help you hone in to exactly what it is, if you are curious. Did yours come in original Ferrari packaging etc?

In the original post from the OP, the badge on the right does not look correct. The variations between different Ferrari models is generally only in reference to the number of mounting studs, not a big change in the font itself. Yes, some have color variations and font "discrepancies" simply from production changes over the years.... but nothing that I've seen resembles the photo the OP posted for an F355: http://www.ricambiamerica.com/62673100-emblem-f.html

Ok, thanks guys, it somehow looked wrong to me. I´ll check with the supplier if they just picked the wrong one from the shelf or if they sold me a fake... Will probably put it on my lawn mower now... :)

Marius, I ordered a front badge from eurospares back in 2010, and received one like yours. I was not convinced it was genuine, so i sent it back for a refund. I purchased another one from another supplier, which had the e looking more like your original one (slightly squared off).

Have you heard back from Eurospares at all? Just checked the hood of my '92 348, and it appears the same as your 'new' one.

I just looked at my 91 348 and it also looks like the new one you got with the rounder E. So it might be a genuine badge, they just think 348 and 355 are interchangable and they apparently are not.

i think we need an official ruling on this. At the moment, there's no conclusive evidence that the round e is non genuine.

It's probably genuine, just wrong for your car.

    I wouldn't put it on my '98 355

I have handled dozens of the original emblems. The OP posting looks like the 'pattern' versions I am offered daily by independent parts sellers.

In the world of Ferrari parts, I've learned to always expect the unexpected and assume a massive amount in variability in Genuine Parts, so I'm never surprised when I'm shown to be incorrect in these issues. That said, I have personally not seen a genuine emblem with that font.

FWIW, Eurospares, where the OP said he got it, does openly disclouse when a part is a reproduction by indicating "Pattern". I've purchased plenty of genuine OEM parts from them and those have always come in Ferrari branded packaging which is not something I've seen from all suppliers.

My 91 348 has the more rounded e as well. From the responses so far, I think you may be right, that badge may be correct for the earlier 348s but not the 355s.

What about the posts on the back of the badge? This is something I noticed when I went through a "mini-restore" of my 1990 348. All of the cheap knock off badges I came across had two threaded posts on the back for mounting, where as the OEM badge (at least for the early 348s) had a single post on the lower half. I did see some badges listed on Ebay as "OEM" (take that for what it's worth) that had a single post on the top half, but all had qualifiers that they were for much more recent models.

On my old original 328 I had the rounded "E"
On my actual 355 I have the rectangular "E"

Dave, Interesting. I have not had the same experience with Eurospares. Purchased Motor and Gearbox mounts. Not marked as 'Pattern" or any other method. Shipped in a plain vacuum sealed plastic bag. Identical to originals as far as I can tell.

    Hi John,

I purchase many parts through a couple dealers (both sponsors here) and most parts come in Ferrari branded packaging. But, small items come in bags with just a FNA label printed on them (hardware and such).

Regarding Eurospares, I did not know what "pattern" meant initially and I saw some prices lower for pattern parts and when I questioned it, they were totally forthcoming to me. The parts I've purchased from them may have not even been available as patterns so I always received OEM parts labeled accordingly.

Thanks for posting your experience also :)
