Well, at least that's what the sequence of events would have you to believe, Walter...

This is triple emergency landings stuff is so hard to believe. If true, it would have likely come out weeks ago. The AirLive.net source cited in the story looks like the National Enquirer of the airline industry to me.

Let's hope they retrieve both boxes in close proximity to one another.

This site is far more accurate (although not sure conclusive):

    The Aviation Herald

There's no events recorded on this particular aircraft in the past 6 months let alone 24 hrs before.

The words "several stages" in the report doesn't sound well for the integrity of the CVR. Hope the memory is intact and the data recorder will be recovered in the near future and in better shape.

the last thing we want is Egypt to control having the black boxes. If it shows terrorism, they'll probably hide it like the Russian downed airliner.

I seem to recall That the french BEA (bureau for aviation enquiries) is jointly responsable for the enquiry, as the plane left from C2G, and There were french nationals on board.

The French are the only ones who can extract the data.

What's most upsetting about the Russian Metrojet is that they haven't arrested anyone in connection. Surely it would have been possible to find out who put the bomb on board by now.

Looks like they are having issues with the memory modules.

"Egypt's CAA announced, that after inspection and salt removal from more than 200 electronic circuits the investigation is in the process of identifying one currently not functioning properly in order to ensure accurate reading of the memory contents. The accredited representatives from the BEA and NTSB are witnessing these procedures. Vessel John Lethbridge is still at the crash site mapping the area and wreckage distribution, which ultimately may result in the recovery of such wreckage parts."

Crash: Egypt A320 over Mediterranean on May 19th 2016, ACARS messages indicate fire on board, main wreckage located, both black boxes recovered

    New report...

Egyptians unable to extract any info, are sending the boxes to BEA.
(Where they should have gone in the first place, IMO).

    Quote:

"What sent EgyptAir flight 804 plummeting into the Mediterranean Sea last month, remains a mystery.

Egyptian investigators have failed to extract any information from the badly-damaged memory chips of the crucial black boxes.
Defeated, Egypt is now sending both the cockpit voice recorder and the flight data recorder to the BEA in France in an effort to help download the data.
The BEA -- the French version of the NTSB -- are considered some the best in the world at analyzing this type of equipment.
In a statement released on Thursday, EgyptAir said the French will "carry out repair and removal of salt accumulations."

The Egyptians have a terrible reputation for 'interpreting' crash information... to suite their agendas.
So, we'll see. Still, maybe nothing when all is said and done.

What was announced here this morning on the news (radio) is that the CVR and FDR will indeed be sent to France, but that the BEA will only repair (or at least, do its best to repair) the recorders and restore the connections in the memory chips; but the download will be done back in Egypt.

Confirmed at the minute: these will only be "repaired" here in France at the BEA premices, and then sent back to Egypt for a joint analysis between the BEA team and the Egyptian team.

Yes, we have the same information here: that the FDR has been "succesfully repaired" and that the data are useable. Note that the information came from the egyptian commission of enquiry, not from the french BEA which worked on the said FDR.
BEA remained silent, I don't know if this is because the "qualified authority" for any comment is the egyptian commission only?

I think it was not a traditional bomb but my have been a fire started in the lav or in the avionics. Was it mechanical, an accident, or intentional?

This investigation is going to take a long, long time.

What I don't understand is why terrorist groups have stopped taking credit for downed airlines. As far as I can see, no one said this or the MetroJet crash from Cairo have been claimed by anybody.

What's the point of causing terrorism if you don't take credit for it?

Why do you think its the result of a terrorist group?

Do Airbus now use batteries like the Boeing 787 Dreamliner? ... if so that is where I'd be starting my analysis.
