And if you get bored, see what it costs to replace the fob/key on a modern car, $2000 is not uncommon for basic "eurocars" .

So anyway, how was the meal again? ;-)

Not horrific if it's really NOS with 2 brand new Neiman keys and the Neiman 68 lock.

New OEM key is about $500 each.

Didn't take long to pull that mess out, I'm sure it'll take hours to stuff it back in, once column was out, access to security bolt was easy, drilled two holes in it and used snap ring pliers to pull

Next I drilled out the pin to pull key tumbler out, I drilled oversize so I could use a larger tool to pry it, after that I had to use pliers to pull locksmiths key of hatred from opposite side, there was no backing it out, now I'm down to do I put this mess together and get a replica key, or do I give up and get a nice fresh one. The key slot is really quite ugly and I just know it'll be staring in my face if I ever drive it again

That's where I'm at, thru my suffering and torment for all of you (like Jesus) I've just boosted the value of all Dino's, 308's and whatever else uses this. I was given $6253.14 without argument, no fighting, just signed a we're not to blame agreement. Please make a note of that. Also you all owe me

You need to take the crappy house key back to the locksmith and say "hey - you lost this house key. But, I handled it - here ya go".

I'd get a new key slot but re-set the tumblers to fit your old key. Do what I did - take a new Neiman blank to Ace hardware along with your nub and get them to cut you a new key. You may laugh - but Ace has cut keys for my Ferrari, my Porsche and by BMW.

    Ace is the place.....

I looked at theirs awhile back, key looks like early Volkswagen to me, it's cut top and bottom. That might be sacrilege. I'm assuming that the locksmiths insurance liability will be tested by the parking company

I'd take it back but wouldn't say a word and am too much of a gentleman to share on a public forum where I would insert it...

Did you try GT parts in AZ. They break a few cars a year and may have an original set up for you.

Why don't you bring that down to a better locksmith shop and start playing with the $.99 ilco keys to see if you can get a good cut and test the mechanism before cutting a good reproduction key. Seems like a waste of a good repro key just to test.

Received my blanks yesterday, spent 5 minutes hand cutting with a rat tail file and bam, smooth easy working key. *disclaimer, I used to make my own keys and pins when I was a kid and into volkswagons. So there you have it. Blew a month doing no upgrades and no driving.

I'm thinking of valeting my car as a full time job, seems like there's money in it. The ol slip n falls aren't paying so good at Costco anymore, it's like there's cameras everywhere
