Unfortunately the entire political campaign and result have gone the way of the state of origin: the people have lost interest in both
Part of the problem is that as long as the parties can see some benefit in blatantly lying about things, they will continue to do it. Shorten's claim today about "a snap election" is just the latest, with Mediscare the main one from this campaign. It's really up to the media to call out this BS, or the Electoral Commission to come down hard on dishonest advertising, but it just doesn't happen. It also needs to be said that the Libs ran a pretty uninspiring campaign.
I've seen blatant lying from both sides which is why I vassilate from side to side, if you believe ANYTHING this lot of ****s says then you are the most gullible goose of all time .............. I'm still waiting for the GST to be revoked and waiting to see no child living in poverty from Hawke, and where's my bananas Keating and 4 million promises broken from the last 6 PMs FFS. The core tenet from both sides has gone MIA and they wonder why people are voting for the independants,
As serious as this is there is going to some of the best comedy show fodder in years Lambie, Hanson and Hinch will work together Oh yeah... How Pauline Hansen and Jacqui Lambie will work together in Senate Pauline Hanson: How she?ll work with Jacqui Lambie in the Senate
It appears to me that the Libs decided to release no new poilicies and therefore present a very small target for Labor to shoot down in the election campaign. Labor countered this problem by inventing their own Liberal policies which they could then run a negative campaign against.
No body from any political party is willing to speak up about the hard solutions that need to be taken and none of the sheeple would vote for them if they did... Hence we have the pathetic parliament which truly DOES represent the sheeple...
+575 What Abbot and then Turnbull failed to do was provide a convincing narrative to the electorate as to what a rapidly growing deficit means for future taxpayers, what escalating costs of bulk billing mean for the future of Medicare and why it's better to take some pain now (less spending) rather than large pain later (a recession). Of course the media were not interested in helping, they only focus on the short-term negatives. Bad news sells. The Labor narrative is the same as Europe, spend indefinitely and borrow to fund it, without regard for who will pay. In Europe, it's the people trying to get in to the workforce (youth and immigrants) who are paying and the broader population who then suffer through deteriorating community cohesion. All of this happening in the context of a massive shift of unskilled manufacturing jobs to China, none of which will ever return. There will never be large scale car manufacturing again in Australia, there is no economic basis for a steel industry, etc, etc. We can use taxpayer's money for a while to prop up old-world manufacturing, but at some point the magic pudding will run out.
Not really Tony Abbott didn't mince words when he called on the Islamic community to speak out against extremism and embrace Team Australia". The "leftie" Malcolm Turbull showing his usual poor judgment had dinner with Sheikh Shady Al-Suleiman, the national president of the Australian National Imams Council, and whom has said in the past AIDS is a divine punishment for homosexuals and adulterers should be stoned to death. It's no wonder One Nation had a resurgence when the main parties pander to idiots
Clearly doesn't pay the media to call out his BS. Remember bad news is good for (their) biz and there will be plenty of new material to work with if captn BS'tn can sleaze in.
True. But the EC really should do something. I remember a big hoo-haa several elections ago where changes were made to ensure "truth in electoral advertising" and that blatant BS would not be tolerated. Things have gotten worse since then. I'm still sticking to my prediction re the result, although Hindmarsh hasn't moved as expected today.
That's about right. An article noted that the one thing that ALL third world countries have in common (apart from poverty) is they do not have a local automotive industry. It supports so many other areas. Electronics, textiles, rubber, paint, glass etc, etc. And we of course have just priced ourselves out of that market. A windscreen fitter is worth 100k a year isn't he??? Just one line of products we used to produce, (80-100 ton a year), is now made in china. Steel product gets returned to our shores cheaper then what we can buy the raw plate for. Supplying state projects! Many of the manufacturers in our industry are getting out. Sick of the all the rules and regulations, from workplace health and safety, licensing, etc. The price of pissing these people off is that all that wealth of knowledge and experience accumulated over a working career will be gone forever. That knowledge base when gone, will never come back. For most, its just not viable or worth the drama to apprentice somebody that's going to show up for work when they feel like it, guzzling their third V for the morning, complaining they haven't got any money because they blew it all on the full sleeve tat they had done on the weekend. Less and less people in local industry to tax, so where is the money going to come from to pay for all the "stimulus" packages we have seen? From ex Union leaders?
Honestly can you believe the scenario we now have in our future parliament. A situation of Dumb and Dumber! Trouble is,we suffer at the hands of incompency. Where is true leadership?
Absolutely, but the media controls the world now by manipulating and controlling the sentiment of the dumb masses. They can virtually undo anyone now regardless of how legit or successful the person may be. If you examine the M.O. they work on gleaning words and re-framing the intent into something that will create anger and unrest amongst the dumb masses. Then they milk it from there until the person they are making the news about is completely ruined. I doubt any leader could maintain a good impression with the general public under the current regime. If the EC got involved in calling any BS out they know they would only end up collateral damage.
+575 They also promote the people they like by not reporting their bungles, it's called lying by omission. e.g. how many people in Aus hear about Hilary and the Benghazi incident?
Absolutely. But it's mainly because they need incompetents in power so they can have a lot of bad news to report on. It's much easier work that way instead of having to embellish and manipulate a nothing into something - into some beat up story that will rile up and get the attention of the dumb masses who seemingly have no memory beyond the last 5 seconds. As a most recent case in point: Now who would have thought B/S'tn would have got any traction with the voters given their countless and recent debacles? We can once again thank the media for all those convenient omissions. It's pretty clear that creating bad news rather than just reporting on it is much bigger business.
