Anyone have any feedback on them in a 430?

Hope you also purchased the header blankets, otherwise you will be replacing your E-brake cables.

Why's that? Too hot? The factory headers don't have blankets.

The factory headers are encased in a metal shield. The third part headers are not. I was lulled into believing that a ceramic coating would reduce the heat from the headers. Three sets of EBrake cables and $7000 later I finally installed the Fabspeed header blankets and everything is fine now. The ceramic coating was a $400 addition, the blankets were $1400. The ceramic coating is not thick enough to dissipate any heat. The ceramic coating was a waste of money. Do a google search on "Fabspeed header blanket" and you'll find other posts on Fchat (including mine) on the issue. Don't forget, you not only have the EBrake cables near the headers, you also have some electrical and fuel cables nearby.

I have the insulation blankets on my capristo headers and cut the heat in the engine bay by a huge ammount. Only ventilation to remove heat is 2 holes in floor but need forward motion to scoop air flow. Worth the money for the piece of mind

Trying to decide between Capristo and Fabspeed myself. Plenty of threads on the subject, you will definitely need the header blankets as there are too many components too close that won't like the heat: A/C compressor, alternator, parking brake cable...etc.

If it matters to any, Capristo is a 4-2-1 format while the Fabspeed is 4-1. There is a distinct sound + pitch difference between the 4-2-1 and 4-1 layout, particularly in the low to mid-range rev band, 4-1 being the cleaner pitch. 4-2-1 is lower/bassier.

    F1 cars also run 4-1 ;)

If u fit the capristo you have to let the ac comp off to get access room. or you will not get them into the space. The manifold nuts are a pig to tighten up and cut down spanners needed. You can do on your garage floor if you get the car wheels 8 inches off the floor on railway sleepers, saver than axle stands etc.

There is also a high probability that you will throw CEL codes from the high flow cats. The signals from the O2 sensors will confuse the computers as its not reading what it's expecting.. Extenders didn't work, some say mini cats work but last I remember they didn't work either.

I believe fab speed talks about the CEL issue on their website. So besides the heat issue, the cats can bring issues.

I had headers and their cats on my 360 from a previous owner and went back to OEM

I threw codes in my old CS with agency power headers and lari I test pipes. I had a tune too so it wouldn't throw a code. Still got one every third or forth time I started the car. Staying stock on my Scud.

I have Fabspeed headers and sport cats on my 430, and am very happy with the setup. I bought the car wi an X-Ost Maranello back box already fitted, so it already had a distinctive note. Replacing the upstream parts took that over the top.

On cold start is sounds just like a challenge car starting up. (I chuckle a bit every time I am at the local Ferrari shop, because whenever they start it up in the shop out back, you can see people look up. And I always know whose car it is that they're pulling around.).

After letting the idle settle, the sound drops to a nice growl, but not overpowering. At cruising speeds or just tooling around town, it's loud, but not obnoxiously so. Out on the track with the throttle wide open... Wow. What a glorious noise.

I did go for the blankets. I knew I needed some sort of heat shielding because the blown OEM headers had shot enough heat upwards to start melting through the ignition harness. I wasn't convinced that ceramic powder coating would be worth it.

The parts themselves were shipped directly to my mechanic, and we're very high quality. When I saw the headers, it was tempting to get another set just to hang on the wall in the garage and look at. Great workmanship. I was told they bolted right up, no issues.

My only affiliation with Fabspeed is that if a happy customer. Feel free to PM me if you have questions, and I can share anything else you want to know about my experience.

Oh, one more thing. I didn't install the O2 extenders on the initial install. I figured I would see if I got the CEL or not. I did, codes P0420 and P0430. Next time into the shop, we installed the extenders, and a couple of thousand miles and a couple of track days later, no CEL.

Thanks a lot for the feedback, guys. So, you are all saying I need the blankets with the headers then, correct?

I have Fabspeed headers and s-line exhaust. Sound is incredible as I mentioned in numerous thread. I was worried that it would be too loud but it is just what a true F-1 engine sound should be. At cruising speed on highway, it is silent. Even less noisy than OEM. there is no drone anymore.

For the blanket, Ronnie is the first adopter of headers and s line exhaust and told me he doesn't have the blanket. I have driven without blanket for 400+ miles so far and no issues. However for peace of mind, I ordered the blanket and am waiting to put it on. I think the blanket would be a great insurance for anything that could happen. Can't wait to put the blanket.

You could find lots of video clips from Ronnie and some from me in different threads here.

Funny, you do know s-line came to be only because me and other scud owner donbvillain funded teague & david to develop the x-pipe for our scuderias right?

But it's ok, I'm more than happy to keep my current and final recipe to myself ;) I have tried pretty much everything under the sun, even before the development of an f430 version of the xpipe begun on Ron's car! Ron must be a time traveller ;)

Blankets aren't necessary, but if you are looking to preserve any oem ferrari carbon in the engine bay, it is a MUST. It helps prevent the carbon from yellowing/hazing etc by dramatically reducing the ambient engine temps. For those who plan on running their cars hard or on track, the blankets are also a MUST.

The Capristo blankets work w any header/cat/test pipe layout. I know because I had them on at least 6 different brands and types of headers and cats.

Sorry for not recognizing you. I didn't know 100% of the behind story and now I know. Again I apologize for not knowing the whole story but mentioning things. Not my intention.

Unrelated question. I noticed some F430's have a black rear instead of body color. What's that about?

^^looks Scuddish to me. Keep looking, it will grow on you. Lets more heat out too. Damn pricey though as you need the whole different rear bumper.
