Nick, your post was very helpful, thank you and others that have posted.

I just took a good look at this. No way to do the job right without windshield out. The gasket lays on the paint and no way to hide the tape line and get a good edge that won't peel. Hopefully just new trim and gasket and not glass.

The rear window is different and I think we could pull the rubber down enough to hide a tape line.

Much more disassembly needed for a bare metal respray but I'm leaning in that direction. With a full motor rebuild and totally restored interior, I think the exterior deserves the same treatment.

The shop owner will look at the car soon and if we can agree, I'll start ripping and tearing to get the rest disassembled and the car to him come fall. I'll also remove the front suspension and build a dolly cradle for the front.

I'll pull the rest out the engine bay also so that can get refinished in black.

The car has the entire interior (less carpets and headliner) removed along with the engine.

I didn't remove the rear glass for all the know reasons as there was no corrosion or the like around the edge of the aperture. I used a length of electrical cord, 5 or 6 mm approx. pushed down between the body and rubber which lifts it away nicely to leave a gap to get some paint in behind, and then careful masking to finish off. Worked a treat and looks perfect on the finish. I tried the seal holdback tape first but it was not very effective and kept pulling off.
