That's not really a tactic. It's simply the rules.

Agreed, this was not the factory/factory deal as in 1966. I assume (you know what happens then) that Ferrari does provide some level of support (engineering, etc), maybe someone here knows. No question the Corvettes and Porsches being so far off pace doesn't pass the smell test.

Organizers REALLY wanted a Ford win, and they made it happen. That said, let's hope the car gets built, etc.

Don't post here much but feel like I can add some insight to the Ford/Ferrari light controversy. I own a GT, do not currently own a Ferrari and a fan of most all makes.
I was in the Ford Hospitality when early into the night the #66 Ford was flagged and forced to pit out of sequence to fix a door side marker. Most in the suite felt it was a bush league infraction but the flag was thrown and in it came per the rules of all motor sports racing. The car spent over 6 minutes fixing the problem and re-entered nearly 2 laps down. Fast forward to around 3:30 am, I was standing next to a buddy "Chris" and Jamal Hamidi (Ford Performance Chief Engineer) in the now nearly empty Hospitality when Chris noticed the #68 Ferrari also had a side marker out. He pointed this out to Jamal as we all watched the car make several more laps. At this point Jamal made made a call to the hot pits and talked to someone, he didn't say and we didn't ask. However the mood throughout the morning and early day was one of why did the Ford get flagged and the Ferrari hasn't? This feeling of track officials applying the rules inconsistently was a large topic as you can imagine throughout the morning. I understand you can't play the "what if game" but "if" you added those 6 minutes back to the #66, it's easily the race winner or if the #68 pits as it was ordered and flagged to do, Fords probably go 1,2,&3. This problem with the #68 was well known for nearly half the race yet the flag wasn't shown to the Ferrari until the last few laps. IMO a huge mistake by the race officials, no fault of Risi or Ford race management again IMO a major fumble by race officials. For people to say officials @ Ford wanted to leverage Ferrari into excepting 2nd place is silly. They just wanted the rules applied evenly.

Thanks for your input. It all adds up in a very logical way, unlike other versions that have been thrown around.

Interesting insight. I had been watching the streaming coverage from Ford which was really fascinating and did note that a car came in for an unlit placard. I thought that was an awful silly infraction, but certainly adds perspective to why Ford might insist that Ferrari do the same.

But I will also say the in car coverage Demonstrated that the Ford could just drive by the Porsche and Corvette demonstrated that the Ford could just drive by the Porsche and Corvette entries

Very very nice, is she a current GT owner? Purchased it new from Ford? Supposed to help a bunch anyway rumors are abound that we're close to finding out.

No she has never owned a GT before. But she is one of the most passionate car junkies I've ever met, and she drives the B-Jesus out of her cars.
Shows up at all the car events.
Good PR for Ford to have 1 woman as a recipient. We'll see what happens.

That wing-to-rear-arch design is so bonkers. I love it.
