I agree. His video is pretty cool. He knows his watches.

Up for your appreciation is a watch you won't see too often.

It's an Omega Seamaster Cermet - also known as The Black Tulip - from 1982/83 and is powered by the Cal. 1420 quartz movement.

The case and the bracelet tiles are made of hardened ceramic that was exceptionally expensive to produce (the watch is said to have had a retail price of nearly four times that of the Moonwatch) so it never became overly popular. Nowadays it can be had for around a grand (if you can find one, that is).

With a width of only 35 mm excluding the crown it's a rather small watch by today's standards. There exists a smaller ladies' version, too but I've never had the chance to see one in real life.

The dark grey compound of alumina and titanium carbide is no longer produced by Omega therefore I suspect getting ahold of any ceramic spares should they be needed can be quite an endeavour.

I love the dial pattern and always look forward to wearing this watch.

The guy I bought these from found original period hook-and-loop tape from same govt supplier NASA built thiers from. He makes incredibly faithful replicas, right down to the typewriter markings for PN and SN. Here's what the original spec document looked like from NASAs archives.

Thank you. Glad I got the rose gold model. A lot nicer in person.
