One of the biggest things that made Magnum P.I work so well was the cast, how they played the characters, and the chemistry that existed between them - You're simply never going to able to reproduce that, no matter who you put in the roles.

Every time Hollywood has looked at remaking a popular old TV series into a film, whilst they have done okay at the cinema, none of them have ever actually ended up having the same appeal as the original TV series! (hence no second film!):

Starsky and Hutch? - Entertaining enough but it felt like it was a bit of a pi$$ take of the original series. (It also didn't help that they roped in the original Starsky and Hutch at the end to try to give the film some credibility! - That just didn't work at all!). The striped tomato looked good though!

The Dukes of Hazzard? - The only thing convincing about the entire film was The General Lee!

Miami Vice? - The only thing it really had in common with the much loved TV show was the title and the name of the two main characters, otherwise it could have been any cop film based in Miami.

The A-Team? - It was a reasonable attempt, and to be fair to the film, at least when they shot at people in the film they actually hit them! - I was always baffled watching the TV programme as to just how a crack military unit like the A-Team completely failed to hit anybody they shot at week in - week out! I mean, none of them seemed able to hit a barn door from a foot away! (unless they were aiming for a baddie stood one foot to the side of the barn door!).

Here's the big problem with all of these remakes:

All of the TV shows ended long before the kids of today were around, so they don't really give a crap about the characters in the film - They're just meaningless characters to them!

And for those of us who were around at the time of these shows, we all have fond childhood memories of the characters and the antics that they got up to, so the movie versions end up falling short because we all know that that's not Sonny Crockett!, that's not Starsky!, that's not Hutch!, you're not Huggy Bear!, You're not the Duke boys!, you're not B.A. Baracus!, that's not howling mad Murdoch!

Could you have someone new play Colombo? - Of course not!

How about Kojak? - Do Me a favour!

Jim Rockford? - Don't make Me laugh!

Were Hollywood foolish enough to try to make a movie of Magnum P.I, then it would suffer the exact same problem: The kids wouldn't give a crap or even get it, and the original fans would feel that our beloved childhood TV programme has been done a complete dis-service!

The fact of the matter is, there is only one Thomas Magnum, one Jonathan Quayle Higgins III, one Orville "Rick" Wright, and only one T.C.

Anyone else in those parts would just be someone pretending to be them!

Of course, Hollywood doesn't care about damaging our childhood memories, they're only interested in making a fast buck off an old idea because it's far easier than coming up with something new, so sooner or later they'll probably get around to making a Magnum P.I movie with younger actors playing all of the parts, and once again it'll do okay in the cinema, and make the film companies a bit of money, and we'll all be left to think: "Pah! - That was no where near as good as the old TV series! C'mon Hollywood, come up with something new for once!".

How about if Magnum inherited Higgins' job, and nearly wipes out the estate back in 2008-09, due to financial climate of the time and bad investments of Robins wealth. Now the only car he has is the 308 that's been "in the barn" for 20 years or so. He has a son he never new about who comes to find him and helps him on a big case that will return the estate back to it's former glory. This way, Selleck could still be Magnum, the 308 still rides, and everyone is happy.

I guarantee if a Magnum movie is made every one of you would go see it. Does making a movie change the original series? Of course not. I sense the emotion so I won't argue but it's just entertainment.

There are a lot of Magnum fans who will never own a 308. We've all been called him at the gas pump or red light. A remake might not be a blockbuster but if Hollywood learned lessons from some of the cheesy remakes, and actually had a decent script, it would do well.

In the movie, have Tom Selleck show up at Concorso Italiano, see all of our 308s beautifully displayed, turn toward the camera, smile and start with one of those flashbacks to a previous era. Plus we'd all be extras and could add all the chassis numbers as Magnum cars, lol.

I hope there will be some footage time for the old 308 GTS, like it happens in James Bond for the old DB5.

To those who remember 'The Italian Job' circa 1969 now that was a great film.

The next Italian Job film was a joke!

Thanks. I'll even let them use my car, for purely unselfish reasons of course. As long as they throw in a paint job and new interior.
