Hey guys, I am new to this forum and looking to add a Ferrari top my collection, i have around $50,000 to find a nice old Ferrari for sale that i could even do a bit of work on. At the minute i own a Porsche 911 turbo which was always my dream car and i am keeping it but i want the Ferrari experience!! All advice welcome Thanks
Welcome George! Without any idea of what you're looking for other than a "nice old Ferrari", the best I can do is give you an idea of you what models you may be able to find for around $50,000 (or less): 308 GT4 1980-82 308 GTBi/GTSi Mondial 400 GT/400i/412i 348tb/348ts Actual prices can vary considerably depending on condition, of course. I suggest you do some reseach on each of these, narrow your search down a bit, and then post any questions you may have in the appropriate model-specific forum.
Hello Mr Wayne, Thank you for giving me a list to choose from that was kinda what i was looking for being as i have never driven one and this will be my first, i will do my research on each model and see what specs and prices i can find. Maybe even a few test drives see which are more comfortable etc Thanks again
It has to be the Ferrari 348Ts it is a classical awesome car i have seen it being driven on car programs on TV and the producers even love every minute of it. I have been looking at some Ferrari classified ads sites doing some research since i last messaged on people's experience's with the cars engine, handling and most of all how comfortable they are, prices etc. after all they are about 20 years old + .. I am going to have to go to a couple of test drives see if i like the feel of the car then sourcing one i imagine would be the hardest part it is not like you see them driving down the road daily.. Thanks
I have actually found one in what seems pretty good condition and only a little over my price range coming in at $59,900 and with a little bartering i might even be able to get closer to my $50,000!! thanks for everyone's help but just one more thing how do you upload images on to this forum?? Thanks again
I would save (or spend) a bit more and get a 360. Maintenance costs are less and it's a much newer design and technology. Go to a car event and check out the models you're most interested in. Spend some time on that models forum here and you will learn a lot.
To be honest, that budget is not going to get you much. You would be best to build that car fund so you can get a quality example of whatever model you decide on. If you keep one thing in mind that there is no such thing as a cheap Ferrari, you will do fine.
I wouldn't--and I've spent a decent amount of time behind the wheel of each. These two cars offer very different driving experiences and it comes down to what moves you. I know which moves me more.
IMHO - Don't plan on getting much seat time in a 50k car. That is the number where service / deferred maintenance gets passed on as a better price of entry. Are you motivated to do your own work? That will help. You might find a 308 QV, 328 or 355 as well, but again, condition? Another idea is to find the model you like best, and concentrate moving that direction and see what you get for your money. You most likely will have to stretch your number, but better to have a good experience. Just think of all of those catchy phrases like, "The bitterness of ------- remains after the sweetness of lo price is forgotten" etc etc. Can you get help from your closest Ferrari club and see if a fellow member can assist you? Good luck with your search!
A sorted 348 will give you the most Ferrari experience for the $ of the ones listed previously. For 10K more you might find a nice 355 that has all the expensive stuff done already.
