FIA tightens radio ban. Vettel's reaction..:)

    This issue should be easy to solve by the FIA.

    They like to impose so many things on the cars, from number of cylinders, to tyres, etc...

    Why don't they impose a limit on the number of buttons and dials on the steering wheel?

    That would stop the choice of settings, and the need to coach the drivers during a race.

    The car would run on the same settings from start to finish, with the team spending practice to reach the best compromise for the race, and stick with it.

    Go back to pit boards only. They can put whatever they want on it, but it is up to the driver to read and understand it. Plus, they can only see it every minute or so.

    F1 is long becoming a joke. I used to really miss the races, whenever there's a 2 weeks break in between. Now, i didn't even realize there's a race this weekend till Friday i think.

    Was the Hungary race in '97 and it was a strategy Brawn was developing due to the race conditions and opponents positions
    Then you'd be a loser and probably never drive for any professional team

    Bloody brilliant, the smartphone might even be able to change the settings via bluetooth :p :p

    Uhoh, the PC crowd will be all over this :eek:
    I started a thread about car radios many weeks ago where this was the best suggestion to the approaching problem of ship to shore conversations.

    The engineers know what is going on due to telemetry so they just put the settings on the pitboard :

    Sw1=6
    Sw2=8

    Then send them a text ............ all good :) :D:D

    Of course this is the right solution. Maybe let the driver adjust the brake bias and the dif, and leave it up to the driver what to adjust and when. But, it is all of the engineering guys who write the rules, right down to valve angle, and they want to be the ones who shine.

    The rules are so ****ing stupid. Just make it simple. NO driver coaching, (tell them what gear to be in to go faster, or braking later/sooner or take a different line or whatever.

    Rest is free game.

    Ecclestone to sell F1 radio communication?


    Bernie Ecclestone is reportedly planning to monetise access to radio communications in F1.

    At the recent strategy group meeting, the controversial restrictions on radio communications were dropped completely, with the FIA confirming that this was done "at the request of the teams and commercial rights holder".

    Part of the deal is that messages that were kept private by the teams even before the radio clampdown was ever implemented will now be out in the open.

    The FIA said this is to provide "improved content for fans and spectators".

    Germany's Auto Motor und Sport now reports that F1 supremo Ecclestone plans to "sell" this full access to all the communications between cars and the pitwall to the public.

    Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff was quoted as welcoming the moves to make all radio traffic available to the public.

    "We believe that it is a necessary part of entertaining the fans," he said.

    I like that there'll be more radio traffic available to fans as it makes the race more interesting. However, it seems a little petty to try to monetize it when F1 is already very expensive and being driven off public television like the BBC, ITV, or Channel 4, in favor of only premium channels such as Sky being able to afford to broadcast it.

    Teenagers and college students may not be able to budget for Sky if they're not still living at home with their parents, so F1 is slowly constricting access to the up and coming demographic. It's going to kill off its TV customer base.

    Bernie probably thinks that his chosen audience for F1 should be among well-heeled Ferrari owners only.

    If he prices F1 out of most people reasonable expectations, his audience will diminishes until he finds something else to pay for the show.

    Bernie might be shocked to discover that even 'well heeled Ferrari owners' are not stupid,and didn't get to own their cars by throwing money down the drain...some are even finding alternative means to access F1,already.

    Bernie is a complete and utter **** wit. The damage he has done removing the "sport" from F1 is plain to see and yet he is still allowed to continue.

    Money really is the root of all evil and that is ALL Bernie thinks about.

    One issue might be that Bernie is so old that he's not thinking 10 years down the line. In fact, if F1 dies soon after he does, there's the posthumous claim that only be could bring the show and it fell apart without him. So he has no real incentive to ensure the long-term viability of the sport and instead is squeezing the lifeblood of of it for short-term profit.
