As I mentioned previously, my drivers side wheel hub nut was loose(!). BEWARE 355 bros!!! I am replacing it. It occurred to me that this wheel receives anti-torquing force unlike the pass side. Am I wrong in thinking this & that the boys in maranello should've put of "lefty tighty" on the drivers side hub nut to prevent?? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Yes. Far as I know it's factory-I've owned the car for 16 yrs. I'll back it all of the way and respond when I know for sure. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Are you saying a lug bolt loosened or the hub nut? IIRC it's a torque spec of 208 FT IBS and a deformation of the nut. Or is the hub bearing done? If so, be prepared for $$$$$
I was thinking the same thing! My first project after getting the 355 last year was to change the passenger inner CV boot. No way that nut was coming off without the help of "old faithful," my big fat impact gun. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
You know its funny.... Ferrari recently updated the manufacture of those hub nuts and we were talking about it at Ricambi America yesterday afternoon. The old ones were a crappy cast-looking nut (identified by the rough/bubbly looking surfaces). The new ones appear to be solid-machined. New nut on the top. Here is a video I made regarding the installation and torque of that nut: http://youtu.be/UtrkIxzHYD8
The drivers side hub nut was staked, but not as decisively as the pass side. Truthfully it may have corroded, but technique is important here. Upon further analysis, I do believe that reverse threading this part for load torquing on drivers side would've been the best engineering option. Beware(!) and check yours!! If mine would've failed and the hub come off, I don't need to itemize the poss consequences for you... My car is a 28k miles, 1998 GTS, well maintained and clean. I think this could happen to any bretherens vehicle. Check em' Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
And thanks to dave for his you tube video on doing this properly. Hub nut Torque = 203 ft/lbs Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
