    Another is adamant that it's an early Jaguar E-type, but that's definitely wrong. It's just the wrong shape and not curvy enough.

    There's something very compelling about that argument, particularly how the author puts it together in the thread.

    Another place to look is at the kit cars produced by Dolphin Coachwork in the early 1960s: Dolphin

    That's most likely how this is going to be solved, by the way. In the back of some obscure British car magazine from 1961-62, someone will come across an ad by a small specialty builder with a drawing of this thing.

    It's called the ETV ("ExtraTerrestrial Vehicle") and it pops up on eBay every now and again. Whenever it does, someone on here inevitably posts about it. I found a quick mention and pic here, but I know it has come up several times over the past few years.

    I was watching Al Pacino in Panic in Needle Park. This Cadillac was in the background.

    Between the faux sidemounts, landau roof, and extended grille, it looks a little like the Superbly Eldorado, but with four doors.

    Which made me wonder. Where these accessories that one would purchase from JC Whitney? Or were they converted into pimpmobiles by local custom shops?

    Was there a famous New York customizer that did this sort of work?

    There were several companies churning these things out, but the most famous was Les Dunham's Dunham Coach in Boonton, NJ. Here are some examples of Dunham's work: http://dunhamcoach.com/gallery.htm

    The Needle Park car looks a little low-key for Dunham and likely the work of a more budget-friendly imitator.

    The sidemounts are particularly low-budget.

    Although the landau roof that stops at the rear edge of the sunroof is kinda neat. It looks like an old cabriolet, half open.

    Back in the '70's I briefly worked at a local car customizer/sunroof installer Wisco Corp.
    We did those pimpmobiles by the dozens :eek:
    We also did some specialty vehicles (a limo and his hunting vehicle) for the then King of Saudi Arabia, King Kalid.
    Wacky times indeed...I hated it, but it was payin' the bills at the time ;)

    But you have to admit looking back, it's a pretty cool experience to have under one's belt!

    Not sure about the car in MF (looks like another low-budget job; pics here ), but the Bond car was a Dunham creation. See the link in my post above.

    Yes and Corvorado (as it is called) exists in 1/43 as well, issued as a piece in big 007 collection a few years ago. So ugly I had to buy it for my collection...

    King Kalid used the Suburban for the sport of 'Falconing'
    The rear seats raised & lowered so he could let the falcon loose & then retrieve it.
    For the mid '70's it was pretty cool.......the limo on the other hand...:eek:

    The irony for me was particularly wacky. Later on in my career, one of my additional assignments was Chief Designer of the Bush 2 Limo & later the Obama Limo. I should have paid more attention when I was younger ;)
    The POTUS limos were so constrained by the SS, we really couldn't do very much other than TRY to make them look like Cadillacs.
    Hateful proportions!!! :eek:
