Correct although it doesn't mean the customer has even specced the car as sometimes the dealer just puts in a spec until the customer does their own later.

It's strange how wait times vary depending on the dealership. I ordered my 488 mid 2015 and fell on the proverbial sword and bought an FF the same day to make that happen. Ironically enough I ended up LOVING the FF. I literally got the first 488 in Austin in mid December of 15.

I spent last weekend in San Diego and visited the dealership and started chatting. They said the way they do it is you buy a California T that day and then they put you on the list at the back. He said the list is usually around 16 months. That's crazy that you have to buy a car simply to even get put on the list.

Talked to a neighbor down the street who just received his 488. Car was ordered by someone and they ended up not taking the car. Neighbor gets a call and he knows enough to know new cars are sold at sticker. He goes to dealership and they make him buy a California, and have immediately trade it back to them for significantly less money than he had paid two minutes earlier for it. After that, they had no problem selling the 488 at sticker.

As many threads have discussed, this is the Ferrari system. It sucks, but all circles around supply and demand. Because I had bought 3 previous brand new cars, I waited 4 months for an allocation, and 6 months from the day I recieved my allocation to get my car. I was the 19th car my dealer had delivered, and that's considered very early. There is a big line behind me that won't get a car for a year or two.

I read this and feel sad that the buying public allows Ferrari to treat them this way. I purchased three new Ferrari's in the 90's. Have never purchased a new one since. Spending much of the year in Europe made me appreciate that this type of behaviour is unique to the US market. Basically, they take everyone for chumps, and we validate that opinion with our purchasing habits. Not trying to ruffle anyone's feathers, just commenting on the obvious. I think Ferrari NA should be ashamed.
