Black skirts on 348 - Which black to use?

I'm considering to go back to 100% original (I have colour coded skirts for the moment), but which black is "correct".

Some say matt black others say it's slightly satin black.

Surely there must be a Ferrari colour code for this black?

Anybody that knows for sure?

(And is it the same during the production of the 348? Or has it changed on MY?)

Looking at my all original I would say matte black. There is very little shine if any, and seeing some with a shiny satin coat on the bottom makes me puke how wrong it looks. It may be slightly shinier than flat black but not much. Please do not paint it shiny.. lol

 

On a generic scale of flat / matte / satin / semigloss / gloss, I would put the correct sheen as matte. However, it depends on the chosen paint. In some, our could be a satin. Do you have any original-finish areas that preserved the finish, tucked up in a rocket panel, safe from the color-match, heat and sunlight? I wonder if it is the same as seen on 308s, Boxers, etc. Some of the restorations could probably help you pinpoint.

This is what we came up with for my car. Basic matt black looked too chalky and satin too shiney so we messed about with some different formulas using matting and glossing agents until we achieved this finish. I think it looks good now. This is gun sprayed in a booth and baked off. Rattle can paint has no real substance or resilience and can't be adjusted so we chose this route. Try and find a paint shop who are willing to experiment a little. The final finish was a satin black with sheen toned down with matting agent.
Ive read something since that made me think that it could be a black base coat with matt lacquer though. That would work too.

I already thought it was not something straightforward like just matt or black.

The funny thing is, on the early cars Ferrari originally painted the sills and front lip body coloured, and then painted the black colour on top.

When they went to colour coding the sills and valance, they simply stopped painting the black colour on top, so they "face-lifted" the look of the car, and saved money on paint at the exact same time!
