The Rescued Mondial 8 I just picked up had lots of issues but one in particular I thought I should ask about. I pulled the fuel pump last night and expected lots of fuel from the tank before I could plug the rubber line that leads to the pump from the tank. There was just a few drops. Is there anything between the inlet of the pump and the tank that would stop this flow or do I have some massive clog? Just not sure if there should be any flow just due to gravity. (I did put 5 gallons of fresh into the tank before pulling the pump.)
While restoring I came across a fuel filter that was broken off in the tank and blocked the exit to the pipe, maybe that's the case? I opened up the fuel tank by taking out the filter and you can also empty it by removing the drain plug. Another idea is to run a cable through the pipe into the tank to see if something is blocking the fuel.
Thanks for the ideas. I didn't want to just start pushing things in to the hose until I knew for a fact there wasn't another component in the path. I'll give it a try and post results for others.
The diagram and parts list shows a filter in the outlet of the left hand tank, where it feeds the right hand tank. As the petrol filler is on the left hand side, it must filter the fuel before it gets into the other tank with the fuel pump suction . It is not showing a 2nd filter on the pump suction line from the right hand tank. Strange set up.
I think you are misreading the SPC figure Mike. The LH tank supplies the fuel pump inlet via a strainer (which probably is blocked based on the OP descriptions of events) - fuel never goes directly from the RH fuel tank to the fuel pump inlet.
I see what you mean now- you are filling the left hand tank and that is filling the right hand tank via the connection pipe No 4. So the pump pulls from the left hand tank and the suction hose must be passing through a sealed hole in the right hand tank. At first view it looks like it is sucking from the right hand tank, i wondered why no filter on that tank. Bit of a strange idea.
