Good point. I traded my 360 for a 458 and while I love the 458 I can't really use the increased HP and handling. Thus going from the 458 to a 488 would be wasted on me. And I like the looks of the 458 better.

That having been said, my dealer offered me a test drive in the 488 and that would be the real way to decide

its all what you like, I have a 458 and mclaren 650s both great amazing cars that I love that give a totally different driving experience. If you prefer the 650s over 458 you will like the 488.. the 488 feels similar to 650

Its an old argument. If you like cars similar to the s2000, older bmw M3s, GT3.. then you will like the 458. These cars make you work to extract every last bit of power out of them.

Cars like the turboS, 650s, new M3, C63, viper have very meaty torque curves thanks to turbos or big displacement. You don't have to work as hard. You can leave it one gear while the other guy is shifting up and down struggling to keep his car in the power band.

Some will say "ugh.. i have to rev it out in order to get going" and others will say "awesome.. I get to rev the bejesus out of this thing all the time!"

no right or wrong answer here, just depends on what you want.

IMO the 488 is not like the TT. TT has a softer edge.
458 is not like GT3 either. Totally different feel.
I have owned or own all of these.

488 is the most effortlessly fast car I have driven. I love 911's own two now a TT and a RS, but they don't feel like A 458 or 488 IMO.

Agree. I love my 488 bc it just does everything beyond perfect... Btw, it has zero lag and has that cool exhaust over-run when you left off throttle like 10 and 11 458s did. This is an excellent step forward in every way to a 458.

So how much do you think a 488 will be worth after two or three years? How about after the track focused version is out? Point is money really has nothing to do with it. These high production cars drop like a rock and likely the 488 more like a lead weight because of the motor. Most owners will flip under two years and take a hit like any production unit. The 488 will flip sooner as aftermarket chipping will make a stock +300K car look slow right off the showroom floor. Also, the coop>spyder>SE>special>LE cycle appears to be shorter with this model so folks will be taking delivery and ordering the next at the same time. Its a great car but feeling defensive about resale value as was stated above is a poor argument IMO.

In two to three years used 488s will be selling for about 10% under MSRP as long as they are low mileage/good spec cars. Spiders will hold value better. It's no different than the 458. I bought a new early 2014 coupe (290msrp) and sold it in the fall of 2015 with 6000 miles for 265K. My same 458 ten months later would sell for 240k. These cars don't really drop much until the replacement come out and deliveries are flowing in. It has less to do with the speciale version. Also Ferrari increases prices with ever new model which holds values of the last model a little bit. The biggest depreciation loss is on heavily optioned cars or modified cars since most buyers don't pay extra for them - certainly not on trade in which most dealers use manheim data for trade value and if anything offer less for modifications since many people are leery about such modifications. This is pretty strait forward Ferrari economics in the USA. Does not apply to other markets.

Spot on. The steep increase for 2017 will def help keep 16s at healthy premiums for some time.

Yes this is a good explanation of the normal Ferrari trend as we all know. However, you completely bypassed the impact of the heavily controversial turbo in the high production model. Why would I pay just 10% under MSRP to get a "slow" supercar? This new paradigm of Ferrari getting into cheaper, smaller, forced induction motors and shortened model release cycles will definitely impact resale. We will see in 2 to 3 years if I am correct.

In 2 to 3 years, 488 extra boost already launched, lap fiorano just 1s faster but 0-120 1.3s faster. And there is already rumors about new model with extra extra boost, and 488 will be half price. Still I won't get one. Just my prediction though.

Yup, mine coming in next week and it's already a '17! Must be a Ferrari first to release next years car this soon! Sure enough, $4k plus additional on base MSRP and I am sure there are bumps on the options, didn't bother comparing line by line.

I am going to throw my 2 cents i on the future value debate. Yes, I am biased, but for those who think that these cars will tank and be worth 1/2, pennies on the $ and all the other comments being made in 3 years because of faster newer models, chips, etc. Strep back, take the emotion out of it and think about the economics of that. If a 2 or 3 year old car is selling for let's say 50% of a new car that is faster, but you can get the old car very close to that level by chipping it, whatever, will anyone buy the new car? NO. And do you guys really think Ferrari will let that happen? They are in the business of selling cars! Only time will tell who is wrong and who is right, and if the economy tanks again, all bets are off, of course. So I guess we shall see....
